Upon arrival members of the Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department and Crystal Lake Police Department found that four vehicles had been involved, with significant lane blockage.

Manual traffic control was conducted as Fire Rescue staff evaluated the occupants of the vehicles for injuries.

As a result of an investigation into the cause of the crash, police determined that a 1998 Ford Contour, operated by Mary Beyer (81) of Crystal Lake, had exited a private drive on the west side of Rt. 14, intending to travel east.

Beyer’s vehicle struck a 2005 Saturn Ion driven by Isabella Jahn (19) of Crystal Lake, and
another vehicle (unidentified – left the scene) which had been eastbound in the curb lane of Rt. 14.

Beyer’s vehicle then continued across the inner lane and left turn lane of Rt. 14 before striking a 2009 Cadillac Escalade, driven by Elizabeth Mohr (37) of Galena, IL, which had been westbound Rt. 14, but had come to a stop in traffic.

Mary Beyer was transported to Centegra Hospital, McHenry, IL with injuries that were not believed to have been life-threatening. No other persons were injured.

Mary Beyer was cited for Failure to Yield from a Private Drive – 625ILCS5.0/11-906, and Improper Lane Usage – 625ILCS5.0/11-709, both petty offenses.
