Less than 50% of the voters turned out to vote in McHenry County.
But that’s not so bad, when one looks at what has happened in off-year elections during this century.
Look at the numbers:
- 2002 – 45.73%
- 2006 – 44.40%
- 2010 – 47.19%
- 2014 – 45.59%
Not higher, but not much lower than the highest turnout over the three-election cycle.
The turnout may be higher than seen because there is deadwood on the voter roles.
So about half the registered voters made the decisions for all McHenry County citizens.
Now those who voted have the right to complain.
The others?
We have to do better than this!
Was the electronic voting given as an option?
Where I vote, they never offer it to the voter, they just assume everyone is going to take the paper ballot.
Judges need to ask the voter if they want a a paper ballot or electronic ballot.
Judges know this but don’t offer it to the voter because they don’t know how to deal with electronic ballots.
Paper is best for integrity of the vote.
Touch screens are the lease secure.
With the paper you have, the paper.
With Diebold balloting …… and zero ballot security ………. who can blame them for not voting.
babette: Has nothing to do with electronic ballots.
In Illinois there is no such thing as an electronic ballot.
Even on the touch screen there is a printed ballot.
It is a long day for election judges and if the touch screen is not used, closing / tabulation of the vote is faster if only the Opti-scan electronic device is used.
Want to point fingers?
Point them at the federal government.
It is far easier to enter our country illegally AND get free healthcare than it is to have someone removed from the voter registration list. eg. Florida attempted to remove dead people from the voter rolls and the federal DOJ stopped them.
Take look,

and why we are 120th in voting turn out.
So why not voting on a Sunday as a majority of countries do, and schools and post offices would be available as dependible polling places.
We would also have more election judges available to spend the very long day at the polling sites.
