Another Sheriff’s Department Corrections Official Out

Paperwork for another McHenry County Sheriff’s Department official that has left since Sheriff Bill Pirm took office has surfaced.

It’s for Harvard’s Daniel Sedlock, Chief of Corrections.  He was being paid at the annual rate of $130,233.  The paperwork started as a “discharge,” but was changed to “retirement.”  The notes at the bottom indicate lots of vacation and sick leave hours for which compensation will be paid on December 19th.

Earlier McHenry County Blog published a similar document for Patrick Firman of Lake Villa. His title was Deputy Chief of Corrections.

  1. Anyone else question why public sector get these phenomenal number of sick days?

    Banked vacation days?

Vacation should NOT be allowed to be banked – use them or lose them.

  2. That’s the game to screw taxpayers and dramatically increase their pensions.

    It should be illegal.

Vacation, use it or lose it.

Minimal sick time, same use it or lose it.

My workplace lumps vacation and sick time together and no carryover.

  3. If memory serves the newer officers and deputies cannot use accrued sick time to add to their pensions.

Also, I believe that hours worked in 2014 are earning sick and vacation time to be used in 2015 and this has to be paid upon termination or retirement.

Where I see the most waste is the fact that every Tom, Dick and Harry at the government center is driving a county car which includes gas and insurance,

We even paid for the gas of those who chose to live outside the county and drive their own cars like Sandra Salgado’s predecessor and former Deputy Chief of Corrections Firman.

Does anyone else think its absurd to pay someone over $100,000 a year and then pay for their gas to drive in from Lake County where they choose to reside.

Its time to get rid of this ridiculous perk.

  4. We’ve got to cut this character nearly a $60 K check, just to cover his unused sick pay?

    Are you kidding me?

Shut this entire scam down now!

  5. Vacation time, sick time etc. are most likely in the Union contract.

I wonder what else Nygren agreed to with the Union?

  6. Duncan, this round of cuts were all ‘political adversaries’.

Sedlock was replaced by one of the three person management team and Firman, I suspect, was let go because of his ties to Lake County (where Prim worked court security)–where Sheriff Curran’s challenger picked Firman to be his Under Sheriff in the recently failed election this year.

Not sure how Prim will be able to cull the every-so-nebulous and potentially libelous “back stabbing, blood sucking scum bags” when they are covered by such trivial things as Due Process and Collective Bargaining…

  7. Yup, you are right, many of who should be fired will escape.

But almost all, especially in the jail, are supervisors and have no contract but should be given due process.

The truth is that almost every supervisor in the jail should be fired or demoted.

While the number of detainees fell drastically these past few years, not one of them made any effort to run their shifts with less officers as CO’s retired or were on time off.

Instead they took the easy way out and complained they needed more officers.

The overtime bill is astronomical despite having an almost two to one inmate to officer ratio and officers watching empty or near empty cell blocks.

By having an over-abundance of officers, some making close to $60 an hour in overtime, the supervisors could then relax in their office and do nothing.

I hope Prim is made aware of this and someone takes a close look at the overtime bill and asks the supervisors why did they allow this to happen.

The taxpayers have been paying for this garbage for way too long!

  8. Somehow, I don’t think that the “back stabbing, blood sucking, scum bags” will be protected by “Due Process and Collective Bargaining,” when it comes to things like using County owned computers to promote the Zinke campaign.

Their removal is not politically motivated, they earned it!
