A press release from Congressman Peter Roskam:

Roskam Statement on the Release of Alan Gross from Cuba

WASHINGTON, DC–Today, Congressman Peter Roskam (IL-06), chair of the House Democracy Partnership, released the following statement on the release of Alan Gross from Cuba:

“I join all Americans in welcoming Alan Gross back to the United States following his five years of unjust imprisonment by the Castro regime.

“However, the Obama administration’s decision to release three Cuban spies—including one responsible for the death of innocent Americans—and seek normalized relations with Cuba is a dangerous mistake.

“Cuba continues to refuse to hold free and fair elections, release political prisoners, and legalize independent labor, press, and political opposition.

“Political arrests more than tripled from 2010 to 2013 and, just this year, Cuba was caught red-handed attempting to smuggle weapons to North Korea.

“Therefore, the Administration’s intent to restore diplomatic relations with Cuba only rewards and legitimizes the Castros’ decades of repressive, dictatorial rule, and once again demonstrates President Obama’s tendency to appease our enemies while alienating our allies.”

  1. Proven again the communist dictator in the white house continues to downgrade what this great nation was before him.

This has nothing to do with republican or democrat, this has to do with a dictator intent on converting this nation to islam.

He wants all guns removed , he wants no one to be able to defend themselves.

Why hasn’t he been brought up for treason?

  2. This President and several members of his administration should have been brought up on charges of treason for other crimes against this country.

This is just sheer arrogance now, knowing he can get away with it.

  3. The world is changing for the better.

Peace will come again and not the endless wars of the last 100 years.

    Get with it.

    People are people.

We trade with China, Saudi Arabia and Vietnam so don’t get in a huff.

  4. The reason why certain elements in our society want to destroy the middle class is because a strong middle class is the enemy of dictatorships.

There was a plan to open China in the 70’s to create the middle class wealth which would change the political landscape there.

A young man stood in front of a tank for freedom.

What can a growing middle class do in Cuba?

They are a rogue nation a few miles from Florida.

Maybe we need to see if a multinational corporation invasion can succeed where fifty years of weak US foreign policy with Cuba has failed.

The reason why presidents have acted unilaterally is because Congress is populated by some of the most spineless garbage our society can dredge up.

If they would exercise their true power no president could circumvent them.

History will judge the last fifteen years of presidential action.

Fortunately the USA is an idea and ideal more powerful than the Patriot Act or normalizing Cuban diplomatic relations.

  5. Karma – how is releasing 3 spies, one of them the murderer of US citizens, “change for the better”?

It’s hard to fathom such logic.

  6. I believe the American prisoner that was freed from Cuba is a Che Guerra fan, sounds like another Bergdahl trade deal to me.
