College District Board Holding Tax Take Flat

The McHenry County College Board is set to ask for the same amount of money next year as it got this year., as you can see below:

MCCD Levy 12-18-14 No Increase

But, if any reductions are made in the request, the resolution instructs the County Clerks involved not to make it proportional.

Specifically, the following fund requests are not to be reduced:

  • Social Security and Medicare
  • Protection, Health & Safety
  • Audit

Any reductions shall come from the following as indicated:

  • Education 85%
  • Operations and Maintenance 10%
  • Tort Immunity 5%

  1. I guess I should look at the headline “Holding Tax Take Flat” rather than seeing a headline “Tax Take Once Again Not Reduced” as a half full cup.

    It reminds me of what my Albanian friend told me.

    Government police would come to the village and take people away in the night.

    And shoot people right there in the village.

    And the people there would feel grateful when the shootings were minimal (less than could have been).

    (I am not diminishing the horror of deadly force by claiming economic force is equally wrong. Governments across the world use the tools at hand to take what they want.)

    But I cannot be grateful because they could have taken more but didn’t, as long as property tax rates in Woodstock are 4% of home value.

  2. With some increase in new construction, the aggregate tax burden will decrease a little bit compared to last year.
