A press release from State Rep. Mike Tryon:

Rep. Mike Tryon Joins AT&T in Presenting Investing in Illinois Award to District 158 Education Foundation

ALGONQUIN…..In partnership with AT&T’s Investing in Illinois Awards Program, State Representative Mike Tryon (R-Crystal Lake) on Thursday presented the District 158 Education Foundation with a check for $2,000.

AT&T’s Investing in Illinois Award provides resources and recognition to organizations and programs in Illinois that are improving lives in their communities and the state by advancing education, economic growth, new technologies and other essential community services.

The Education Foundation’s cash award will be used to support District 158’s Life Instruction Guiding Huntley Transition (LIGHT) program, which helps special needs students ages 18-22 achieve appropriate, measurable, post-secondary goals based upon age-appropriate assessments related to employment, education and/or job training and independent living.

Transition services include instruction, community experiences, development of employment and other post-school, adult living objectives.

The Education Foundation was nominated for the award by Representative Tryon.

“The District 158 Education Foundation is comprised of community volunteers who work very hard to compliment the already-excellent educational opportunities that are available to those who live in the school district,” said Tryon.

“The LIGHT program provides much-needed support to the special needs population as they transition into adulthood, and I was pleased to be able to assist in the program’s mission through this cash award.”

  1. D158’s “Light Program” is an outstanding job coaching, training, and life skill transition program into adulthood for its students and I think that it is terrific that the Foundation chooses to support it with the $2000.

Knowing the teacher and paraprofessional, the money will never be wasted and will give them the books and tools they need to sustain this program for their special needs students who have aged out of Huntley High School.
