CL Police Joins State-Subsidized Anti-Drunk Driving Campaign Starting Friday Night

A press release from the Crystal Lake Police Department:

Holiday boozers beware: Crystal Lake Police Department cracking down on drunk drivers

Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over

From December 19th through January 4th of the New Year, The Crystal Lake Police Department will be out in force as part of the annual Illinois “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” crackdown on drunk drivers. This campaign will include high-visibility alcohol and seat belt enforcement throughout Crystal Lake, during both daytime and nighttime hours.

During this holiday enforcement period motorists can expect that officers from the Department will be joining other police agencies in the statewide effort to aggressively enforce vehicle code violations related to occupant protection, speeding, cell phone use and impaired drivers. Motorists are encouraged to ensure all occupants of vehicles are properly buckled up at all times.

The statewide crackdown will also be supported by national and state paid advertising, creating a comprehensive campaign to curb drunk driving during the holiday season.

The Crystal Lake Police Department is reminding residents of the importance of properly using child safety seats and fastening their seat belts over the Christmas and New Year’s holiday period or run the risk of receiving a ticket. As of January 1, 2012, every occupant of a vehicle, no matter the age or seating position, is required to be in an appropriate child safety seat or wear a safety belt as prescribed by the law.

Additionally, as a reminder, effective January 1st , 2014 the Illinois Motor Vehicle Code has been amended which prohibits a motorist from any cell phone or electronic communication device use while driving unless it is in hands-free mode, with few exceptions.

Distracted driving has become a significant contributing cause in traffic crashes.

Do your part to keep this time of year a time for joyous celebration and fond memories.

Don’t become a statistic.

CL Police Joins State-Subsidized Anti-Drunk Driving Campaign Starting Friday Night — 34 Comments

  1. How sad. Our “peace officers” are forced to ATTACK, HARASS, and TARGET our own citizens.

I would encourage all the good cops to tell the chief to shove it up his a..!

Tell him that you won’t continue this vicious harassment of the very people who pay your salaries.

Do cops know what motivates distrust and skepticism towards police? Policies like this.

    Shame on the state.

Shame on the complicit police departments.

The Gestapo, the SA, and the KGB would be proud of the officers who comply with this demand.

  2. Didn’t Linder retire and already get his bloated pension?

Why would the CLPD continue this aggressive, negative attack on it’s own people.

$400 tickets for hard working citizens for “crossing the line” at the train station and now continued abusive “check points” on the road”?

    What a shame.

You wonder why people irrationally HATE the police….a ‘la Ferguson, Missouri?

    Look in the mirror, CLPD.

You’re cutting off your nose to spite your face.

You harm your own PD – AS you penalize your own taxpayers.

Shame it is, CLM, you are spot on.

Regular police officers in the CLPD, all you have to do is tell you Chief, “NO”!

    Then, this insanity will end.

The regular COP has the power; all you have to do is stand up and say, NO MORE !!!

  3. The Mayor and the City Council are too wussy to even consider such bravery.

  4. And it’s “free” money for the PD so any officer that refuses would probably have problems with coworkers

  5. This is the way this great nation is headed; a big police state.

Driving through the neighborhoods and assisting citizens is a thing of the past.

Just take notice of an occupied car sitting off the side of the road in a rural area and see how many police cars just drive by without stopping to see if the driver needs help.

The instances were assistance is rendered is the exception not the rule.

The change needs to come from the top and allow the officers to do their job of protecting and serving the citizens of their jurisdiction.

  6. Reading comprehension is not a value of this thread, I see.

Let’s break this down a bit.

    Holidays = increased traffic.

Also, Holidays = increased alcohol consumption.

Increased traffic + increased alcohol consumption = increased alcohol related traffic accidents.

Increased alcohol related traffic accidents = increased traffic fatalities.

It’s a simple premise, really–IDOT gets funding through USDOT to counter this equation and the equation is based upon an easily assumed delimit-the over consumption of alcohol prior to operating a vehicle is an easily avoidable situation.

Think this pre-notice campaign just maybe an effort to publicize this delimit?

I’ll turn the sarcasm off for a minute—hey folks, these are US funds spent to make the roads safer by putting extra officers out there, in vehicles, to stop drunks from killing you, me and/or your loved ones.

Happy holidays everyone and God bless!

  7. Really? You end by wishing everyone “Happy Holidays” and give us “God’s blessings”….but you start by slamming us as illiterate buffoons who don’t “value reading comprehension”.

Your form of a Merry Christmas duplicity, I presume.

Actually, we can take your argument a little further: We should return prohibition – then there won’t be any drunk driving deaths on the road!

Or, we can force breathalyzers on everyone leaving a bar or restaurant and arrest them on the spot.

    That could work too.

Really, with your line of reasoning there’s no limit to the personal freedoms we could take away in the name of your desired nanny state under the ruse of protection of “the children”.

    Don’t you get it?

  8. No they don’t, CLM. really?=one of the useful idiots that just love the police state.

Government is always there to protect you. Keep trusting while all your freedoms just melt away in a vapor trail.

    Big brother appreciates your support.

  9. CLM, I never insinuated you were a buffoon, just that your narrative is false and sorely misplaced.

I have not advocated prohibition in any form.

Let’s be clear–your right to consume alcohol is absolute, pending you’re of age.

Your right, however, to be a clear hazard to life and limb of those around you isn’t.

That is my point and you missed my reasoning, completely.

Cindy, still hurt because I shattered your POV on another thread?

Not that it’s any of your business, but I am a libertarian and I just recognize that your rights are limited when they unnecessarily infringe upon the commensurate rights of others.

    Have a Merry Christmas!

  10. My last salvo before the peanut gallery commences to butcher my words and my intentions.

Hey, if you’re of age, feel free to get drunk all you want–just exercise some common sense and don’t drive afterwards.

    That’s a pretty clear baseline.

I just fail to see how more police on the streets, proactively looking to deter and apprehend those who present a clear danger to EVERYONE else, represents Cindy’s New World Order or CLM’s police state.

I guess both of you vehemently oppose any increase in your local constabulary and I would conjecture you don’t retain that position when and if you were to (God forbid) become a victim.

It’s just oxymoronic play and you’ve lost sight of the balance inherent in the basis of our democratic republic and that is the social contract.

Read Locke, Rousseau and Hobbs–they provide great insight into why a civilized society needs some government (I’ll agree on government being minimal, but anarchy doesn’t really work).

Once again, happy holidays–and if that offends you–sorry, but I am capable of having civil discourse and still being civil.

  11. LOL…that conspiracy laden fodder?

Do yourself a favor and lose that website, it’s laughable…

Almost hard to take you seriously after that…

  12. I am so sorry that you refuse to wake up.

Good luck with your police state. (BTW your source that you choose to believe in are all main stream media disinfo BS artists that spew venom against truth. You probably have great faith in Snopes also.
YOU are either a liberal or completely brain dead from drinking the toxic poisons you have been fed.)

Again, I say, “Good luck with that”.

I would say “Cheers”, but I have never imbibed.

  13. Take care Cindy and watch out for those black helicopters in the night sky.

How difficult it must be to find any rest or comfort when you believe in such conspiracy laden crapola.

I’ve no faith in any media form and certainly don’t imbibe in your ridiculous doctrine that everything is moving against everything else.

It’s rather fascinating to imagine how people like you must struggle just to make it through your day–worrying that every step is being recorded, every deed scrutinized and anything that happens to you is the result of someone else’s doing (or maybe it’s easier that way…).

On an aside, just like CLM and the others, you’ve no clear idea of my political ideology (I think liberals are completely brain dead…as the saying goes “someone who’s not a liberal at 20 has no heart, someone who’s a liberal at 40 has no brain…), but I’m not bat crap crazy and as the off the charts to the right, like your conspiracy theorists…

BTW, we did land on the moon, fluoride isn’t all that bad and vaccines don’t cause autism–good luck with that.

At least I know your posts are pure entertainment…

  14. Good grief, you have no idea.

    Fluoride is a proven neurotoxin.

    It deadens the brain.

I give you proof by what you just said.

    Vaccines are very dangerous.

Just ask the people that have children with whooping cough and the sick people in Sierra Leone or the dead children that were force vaccinated in third world countries.

You call me crazy – yet you are the one trusting in false gods.

I will not debate with you.

You are too far gone to be helped if you actually believe you are safe letting others tell you what and how to think.

  15. But, we did land on the moon Cindy.

Yeah, I have a strong, innate sense of believing those pesky facts that are backed and proven via the scientific method–guess that makes me a chump.

You know David Icke is BS crazy and topical applications of fluoride are widely accepted standards of practice in dentistry (I assume your issue is with fluorine in drinking water…that I don’t care for)?

I realize following the esteemed Jenny McCarthy on matters of vaccination facially makes sense to you, but I much rather prefer following empirical evidence conducted by study and science.

I bet you follow Jesse Ventura and his awesome TV show (I guess 3 seasons were all the feds were going to let him continue to pull the wool from our eyes…), especially HARP and the 2004 tsunami? Ok, I’m done playing and baiting you, it’s been fun–but I should stop.

  16. Here’s an example of an article with links to real science:

    http://openparachute.wordpress.com/2014/02/20/repeating-bad-sicence-on-fluoride/

Don’t put your children at risk because you’ve opted to follow bad pseudoscience and an awful narrative based on some goofy bias disguised as a “scientific paper” drafted by someone who can’t spell scientific method, much less follow it, and the whole “inter-webs” has gone aflutter with such baseless, inane vitriolic crapola.

  17. You blubber at nothing.

I don’t have Tee Vee! Maybe you should turn yours off.

You reference so much from your brainwashing by media, maybe you should discover something for yourself.

    “Real science”?

You mean you believe in the ignorance of experts.

  18. I’ve been telling Cindy to stay off those goofy sites forever.

    She will never learn.

She believes in little green men.

  19. voter? Do you realize that really? is the only one on here that was all for this campaign?

Way to pick the popular side to be on, huh?

    You cops are a riot.

  20. Cindy, unless you have some advanced degrees, training and experience on the issue and pursue truth via the scientific method–your opinion is really just arbitrary, subjective and, in the long haul–nothing.

I’ll take the ignorance of experts over the tin foil crowd, any day.

BTW, since when does ‘popular’ equate with ‘right’?

If so, by your own standard, your conspiracy theories would be meaningless since, they are ‘not popular’.

Cindy, you keep popular, I’ll keep right.

BTW, at one point and time the ‘popular’ crowd thought slavery, prohibition, suffrage were right and that the world was flat and the center of the universe.

Keep on pushing that popular thing and let me know how it works…

  21. Really?……You are making a rational argument but you are far too trusting of Government.

    Your language confirms such.

You say that you are against prohibition….but state that the person “must be of age”.

    Why?

When the drinking age was raised from 18 to 21 it was done to lower the death rates on the road.

    That it has done.

You (and I for that matter on this issue) agree that it was a good law, despite the limit of freedom.

Lives mean more, so it was a rational move.

But….something has occurred in our culture that is an unintended consequence of this law.

People like you and the police now believe that drinking in your own home with your parents at age 18-20 is WRONG, even IMMORAL.

    That is foolish.

NOTHING is wrong or immoral for even a 17 year old to drink responsibly under the supervision of their parents.

    NOTHING.

Yet police are actively ticketing and arresting those younger kids at colleges and even homes….despite their freedom, no inherent wrong in drinking alcohol responsibly, and no driving.

But, the law that was intended to just address DUI related deaths has slowly morphed into greater and greater control of our family life at the hands of the police.

We lost far more freedom from this law despite its good intention.

When government takes, it take a lot more than it originally intends.

Before you know it, rather than keeping the peace, the Police are the unintentional enemies of the people they’re supposed to protect.

This is where your ostensibly rational argument collapses.

I doubt you are a serious libertarian.

  22. Merry Christmas to the three of you!!!!!

    My God lighten your load.

  23. Cindy you say cops are a riot.

If you ever need help call a gardener.

If you get hit by a drunk driver invite them to your hospital room for a drink.

  24. I will never ever call a cop.

Personal responsibility and integrity is something to live by.

What part of I do not imbibe did you not understand, voter?

    And to really?:

Scientist are theorists looking to observe whatever they deem to be true.

At one point they all agreed that the earth was flat.

    Good luck with that.

    CLM is absolutely right.

    You are no libertarian.

  25. Merry Christmas to you too, Jeff.

Our load isn’t heavy, Jeff. We’re just addressing concerns that Government is taking too much and gaining too much power.

You have been one of the few stalwarts in the CL Council on taxes; and for that I’m grateful and I’ve voted for you.

But your PD is an over-reaching monster that YOU have to start controlling.

If you don’t recognize it, that will frighten me.

No need to respond; you’ll be targeted if you do.

Chili’s almost closed because of them.

They have attacked too many good citizens….in some cases have ENJOYED doing it.

Though most of the officers are fine, YOU have to control your bad guys MUCH BETTER.

  26. CLM, where we differ is one salient issue.

The courts/legislation has eroded discretion among law enforcement to a point where many issues, particularly community caretaking, have become ministerial.

Sure, I’d bet most cops have kicked a few back underage and sure, I’d even bet most cops would be happy with patting Junior on the head, warning him about the hangover to come and sending Junior home with Mom and Dad-but 2014 isn’t 1974.

I think you and I both know the cop would be hung out to dry by Administration, the CEO of their jurisdiction and Mom and Dad–with internals, complaints and lawsuits flying.

It’s a sad reflection upon the state of society that some would label as progress under the Zero Tolerance ideology.

I lament over the loss of Community in the loss of discretion–but discretion has lost favor among the PC crowd who are too quick to label it an ‘ism (favoritism, racism, cronyism, etc.).

My last missive to Cindy–those folks weren’t quite scientists.

The scientific method really came to light under Sir Isaac Newton, who came after those folks thought the world was flat.

    Nice try though.

My argument doesn’t collapse because, unlike your point CLM, I don’t extrapolate the very narrow scope of a few extra patrol cars on the road to roadblocks and home invasions.

I leave it at that very simple and very Libertarian principle that your rights halt that moment they commensurately infringe upon my rights.

  27. You are not a libertarian really? – you are a globalist.

“We have to control you to protect you” is their model.

  28. Okay, Cindy–I’m out, you caught me.

BTW, my NWO friends are not only transcribing your posts, but have determined your ISP and have downloaded all this information to NCIC so local law enforcement will now code you ‘Yellow’ to ‘Red’ on your future traffic stops.

You can feel free to remove your tin foil hat and exit your prepping bunker now…resistance is futile.

  29. So, you admit you are a government troll. (Like I didn’t already know that.)

  30. Now Cindy, please regale us with your conspiracy tales on how smoking doesn’t cause cancer.

I can’t wait for this one!

    You are too funny.
