Dan Duffy Gets Big Boost in Campaign Against Red Light Cameras

State Senator Dan Duffy has a long-standing campaign against Red Light Cameras.

He, among may others concluded that their installation was for raising revenue, not reducing accidents.

Now a $14,000 study financed by the Chicago Tribune has added significant weight to that point of view.

The Chicago Tribune article on Red Light Cameras should help State Senator Dan Duffy in his campaign to reduce their obnoxiousness.

With all the Federal traffic safety money flowing into Illinois, wouldn’t you think that the Illinois Department of Transportation could have used one of its highly paid and highly skilled researchers to perform a similar study.

The Tribune study found there were fewer T-bone accidents, but that they were more than offset by an increase in rear end collisions.

Maybe Governor-Elect Bruce Rauner will put that on the plate of his Secretary of Transportation.

  1. People who disobey the law deserve tickets.

    Drivers are crazier than ever.

Seldom do they stop when a person is in the crosswalk, they tailgate, speed,, change lanes unexpectedly.

  2. Dan Duffy should be applauded.

Red light cameras need to go as they are a waste of the tax payers money.

Clearly, their purpose does not serve the people.

Thanks Dan Duffy, for fighting the good fight on behalf of the people!

  3. Cindy – People stop fast when the light is close to turning and more rear ending. Used to get the yellow and proceed carefully.

The yellow light have been seriously shortened since the cameras.

We were told to stop into the yellow if you can do so safely.

The shortened yellow lights have been a real problem.

  4. Karma on, I totally agree with you.

I also think that the red light cameras should go.

  5. james? Can you not read?

    rear end c-o-l-l-u-s-i-o-n.

A rear end secret agreement makes no sense.

  6. Thank you, Cal.

I was trying to be subtle.

    Guess James took it wrong.

  7. Cindy you are so unbelievable.

I hope your family is checking up on you.

  8. Voter, you need to shut up before you get sued.

Your constant slander is on record.

  9. I have no problem with Red Light cameras catching reckless drivers, but reality is that 90%, or more of the tickets are issued for the “Right turn on Red” without any connection to traffic safety.

Red cameras clearly show whether Right of the Way Rule was violated, and ticket should be issued only when the violation of this rule occurs.

Slow Rolling Stops, or not stopping exactly on the Stop Line has nothing to do with safety, and is an excuse to extort money from the public.

If Red Light Camera programs abuse can not be stopped, then Red Light Cameras should go.

Policing for Profit is wrong whether it uses Red Light Camera programs, or when is done like in Ferguson.
