“Today’s speech was a somber look at the many issues that must be addressed over the next several years, and I applaud the Governor for presenting a truthful account of our fiscal situation. I appreciate his honest assessment.

“I was pleased to hear the Governor state that the consolidation of units of government is a priority. DuPage County is a success story for how consolidation can save taxpayers millions, and I look forward to that program serving as a statewide model.

“I fully support the Governor’s calls for term limits and for the consolidation of the Treasurer’s Office and the Comptroller’s Office. We can honor the late Judy Baar Topinka by making her vision for a combined office a reality.

“This speech marked a new starting point for cooperation between the General Assembly and the Governor’s office. I look forward to the respectful exchange of ideas that our Governor will foster with members of both parties and in the House and Senate.”
