Comparing Sheriff’s Payrolls, Late Nov. to Early Feb. — 49 Comments

  1. This for a two week period?
Due to overtime or cashing out perks it is difficult to make many conclusions.

  2. McNamara gets $110,188. Not bad for a guy with a criminal record in light of Prims dismissing him as an integral part of his election committee . Shameful

  3. Hard to make much out of a two week window. One question I do have is the left column is truly November while Nygren was Sheriff, how did Prim get himself on that list? Backdated Payroll? Hard to understand how he could have made over $5k before he was sworn in.

  4. Just not sure what we are looking at, the article says the left column is the last payroll under Nygren but the column heading says last payroll in December.

  5. …also not surprised as a diehard Prim supporter that you don’t want anymore comments about his transition, it sure was a mess.

  6. I’m glad there will be no more ridiculous comments made by three Prim haters.

They write about Prim on every subject that isn’t even about him.

The Sheriff makes his decisions based on what is best for the people of McHenry County and the department.

I don’t see any other decisions that police Chiefs make within their department, just the Sheriff’s department.

Every move the Sheriff’s department makes does not have to go under a microscope for the 3 idiots to comment on.

People voted for Prim, he won and the people who voted for him have confidence in him.

Cal maybe you should block all the comments that do not pertain to the subject matter.

That would end alot of bull.

  7. Thanks Cal, three 3 or 4 people are ruining your blog. They go after Prim and now you. You have one of the best blogs and thanks for that too. No one wants to read what these couple of people are saying. It’s your blog.

  8. Aren’t most of these employees in a union?

There must have been a lot of salary bracket changes very quickly.

  9. You are right Constituent.

The increases in some pay are probably because of Union step grades which increase your salary.

  10. To Voter:

Actually I was curious about the “decreases” in salaries.

  11. There could have been bides for Union covered positions that employees took. That way they can be protected by the Union. In my area a Chief is a appointed position that can be taken away at any time. Now if I were a Lieutenant before that I could drop the Chiefs job and move down to a Lieutenant position and get less pay. I don’t know if that is the way of the Sheriff’s department but it may be.

  12. Cal, you have Prims name in the November column.. He didn’t start til December. What was Nygrens salary? We all know it was more than Prims. Thanks

  13. As several have pointed out, this chart is confusing and raises more questions than it could ever hope to answer. Only way it would have any hope of providing answers would be to show the hourly rate applied to each employee… then and now. As some have pointed out there could be step increases (based on longevity) kicking in, overtime, etc. etc.

What is hilarious – to me anyway – is to watch the haters on BOTH SIDES OF THE COIN, battling back and forth with the ad hominem attacks on each other. The two yelling the loudest trying to put down any questioning of Prim’s motivation or actions are the same two who made the biggest stink of what went on under Nygren’s reign.

“Voter’s” (and McHenry Voter may be one and the same, not sure) comment “I’m glad there will be no more ridiculous comments made by three Prim haters. People voted for Prim, he won and the people who voted for him have confidence in him” is an absolute stitch. He/she is not even bright enough to realize that he’s a hypocrite.

They were all over Nygren before the election making idiotic and unsupported statements about Nygren and Zinke, they questioned any and every decision made by Nygren, they had the entire department under an ELECTRON microscope, and if somebody farted, they claimed that Nygren and Zinke, et al would be indicted within the week (which never came to pass – no surprise there) and seem to have forgotten that the PEOPLE elected Nygren how many times? Surely he should have been given four times (or more) the passes they now plead are due Prim.

The idiot radicals on BOTH sides need to step back, drink a large cup of STFU and get a life. Nygren was watched closely and SHOULD have been watched closely, if only because he was an elected public official. The holds true for Prim. It comes with the job. We should all be asking questions and demanding answers of our elected officials. To say otherwise is just insane, especially when we decide who to ask and what to ask them based on partisan politics.

How about you idiots take a walk and leave it for the grownups to discuss Prim (and others) performance objectively.

  14. Ben,

You are right. I think, at the end of the day, it’s politics. Cal and his Tea Baggers won. They ousted Nygren, they Ousted Tryon, and it seems Mayor Sue Low is next. Regardless, I’m sure Cal is a nice guy. I may not agree with him on every issue, but I think what he does is more than the average person, when it comes to politics.

But I do believe in an open dialogue. I think that both sides, no matter how backward their thinking, should be able to be heard. So, I guese this is goodbye.

DUNCAN, I’m going to miss you – your buttered popcorn, your game show references – you really do crack me up.

Voter, what’s there to say? You and DUNCAN make the cutest couple! You agree on everything and I hope to get an invite to the wedding.

And Cal, keep on fighting the good fight and reading tea leaves! You know, you are the absolute BEST at reading Tea Leaves.

Goodbye everyone, I hope the best for this county! And even if the new GOP doesn’t work out, at least you will have Duncan and voter telling you it’s all good!

  15. Cal, What was Nygrens’ pay in November ? He is not anywhere on the list

  16. why is the new Sheriff’s pay almost 20,000.00 less than Nygren’s was?

  17. The end of November and the start of February probably had a union contracted pay raise within that time frame since the fiscal year started and ended, and SOME may have also had a union contract “step” increase, due to their anniversary date being within that time.

I believe that the department pays is for a two week period.

Also, this list is for every division, as I recognize some names of deputies, dispatches, court security officers, etc. Different branches of the union contract will have different pay scales and raises and step increases.

Except for a few, basically a non-issue story. There is no comparisson between Prim and Nygren with-in this issue.

  18. See Cals article of 12/22/2014 titled “McHenry County Highest paid Employees ” Nygrens pay was $150,884.86 plus extras totaled $173,116.76

  19. Cal simply did not get the full story from the county regarding the sheriff’s pay. There’s a stipend of some sort paid to EVERY sheriff for some sort of bs collateral duty… supervisor of public safety or something. Other than that, the sheriff’s salary is set by state statute, just like the judges and the state’s attorney. Those salaries are dependent upon the county’s classification (by population).

Prim is paid the same as Nygren – if anything, Prim may have gotten a bump since you know damn well they (the legislature) will never cut the constitutional officer’s pay and, since they cannot increase an elected officials pay DURING his term, the bumps always occur when a new term begins.

Anyone spouting to the contrary is just stirring the pot without knowing what they’re talking about. More of the personal attack crap

  20. Ben Frankly on, you are so so wrong and it is a lie that the sheriff’s salary is set by state statues. You are also stating a lie when you say that Prim is paid the same as Nygren. Who are you trying to kid.

No one is stirring the pot and I do know what I am talking about. You do not.

  21. Bill, Ben, and Frank brought to the table some very interesting facts that should be commended for their transparency.

Also, I am shocked that the new regime suggested Censoring in a blog that is designed to bring to light matters of public interest and to encourage public participation. A lot is said about this suggestion that makes me even greater concerned about this new regime.

  22. Ben frankly is very much wrong.

The county board sets the pay for the sheriff. Look up the law and justice commitee meeting minutes from Nov and Dec. They work onside some parameters set by state law but that’s it.

The sheriffs straight salary was cut by about 6k on the premise that the outgoing sheriffs length of service merited higher pay. Which quite frankly is not a bad way to look at things.
you will also notice the board, at the direction of the outgoing administraton tried to cut alot of other things.

    On another note

ERIC C aka karate douchebag lawyer harrison or his puppet makes me laugh. Better luck next time but something telld me the next thing jim h runs for will be an even bigger loss for him.

  23. I just reread what ben frankly wrote.

where did you arrive at this false conclusion ben?

The sheriff position salary not only received no bumps but was cut.

this is not stirring the pot it’s black and white fact.

You stating that contrary is either ignorance or deceit.

Either way I’m this age of instant information neither had much of an excuse.

  24. So why was the Sheriff’s salary cut right before the swearing in? Was the Sheriff’s budget cut also?

I’m sure Zinke didn’t leave any extra money in the till to work with. He probably left Prim a stapler but that probably didn’t have any staples in it.

So were certain people on the County Board trying to set up a failure for the Sheriff’s department because they were Nygren supporters?

Go back and look to see what was passed right before new people were sworn in. Was Prim the only one to be effected?

Someone should look into this. I think the County Board had some dirty dealings going on.

  25. I’ll check to see if the first list is accurately described when County employees are back at work.

  26. Mr Delusional Eric AKA JIM HARRISON, you are confused, there is no new regime and if you really believe that, you need help. We certainly don’t want delusional fanatics, out of touch with reality people, running the States Attorneys office. The first thing you would do is bring back Nygren and Zinke.

  27. JIM HARRSION —LAND RECORDS? While you are on this blog, provide and explanation to the people of McHenry County, as to why you have not produced those famous land records? You have a lot of explaining to do Jim. Instead, of wasting your time, tell everyone how much you made on that deal Jim. I was told Pack and Nygren were in on that deal and you would not have know about it, had it not been for them. Is it true? And, is it true that you would have made far more money selling commercial land? News flash everyone, that means that the land purchased was privately owned and when it was sold it to the County it was considered commercial property, which means that the value of the original land deal multiplied how many times JIMMY? You made a h……l of a lot of money on that deal Jim. But, were you the only one who got paid? Just asking. Personally, I think we should bring Pack and Nygren back from Florida and detain them for depositions.

  28. CALLING ALL IRS OFFICIALS! IT IS A HARRISON, NYGREN AND PACK EMERGENCY FOR OFFICIAL REVIEW OF IRS FILINGS!
Gosh, sure hope there are penalties!

  29. And, you are so worried about discrediting Prim and McNamara. Jimmy, if someone doesn’t pay the IRS and that amount of money turns out to be a “WHOPPER” in earnings, do they qualify for the honesty and integrity department? Just asking. It would really, be best if you take those wild fantasies you have about running the States Attorney’s office and shove them down Eric’s throat. Whatsa matter Eric, not man enough to standup for yourself? Well, the IRS can help you with that.

    LAND RECORDS!

  30. Now, you all know why we don’t want Jim Harrison to be the next McHenry County States Attorney… He can’t even answer a simple question like “LAND RECORDS” Silence is “NOT” golden, Jimmy Harrison!

Thank you Lou Bianchi for being there for the community and developing such and awesome, incredible and professional relationship with the McHenry County Sheriffs Department and the Sheriff’s leader Bill Prim…. Keep up the work guys!

  31. Duncan. You missed the boat. Why not file a FOIA over those land records? If the government (County) bought land-they have to release the particulars via FOIA, as long as the deal is done. Instead of being all manic and deflecting the issue–FOIA and post the findings. If not, you’re just trolling again, and again, and again. Forget Harrison’s silence on a land purchase, we’re all too interested in an elected official’s silence over a questionable hiring.

  32. Harrison needs to produce the records. You are the one deflecting. No I will not forget his silence on the land purchase. No one has heard from Harrison and he has been asked for years to produce the records. He has provided absolutely no explanation on this blog about those records. He hasn’t even said it’s not true. Well Jimmy,l How about it? Let’s at least hear your excuse!

  33. Harrison doesn’t need to…FOIA them. Let’s hear your excuse why you won’t FOIA? No deflection here–you’ve ranted about several posters’ stance on McNamara–part of which is the Sheriff’s failure to publicly address the hiring-esp. since he, himself, authorized the hire. This is easy-Duncan-just FOIA and you have your answers. I can’t FOIA over this hire, but you can certainly FOIA over the long done land deal. So put up or shut up. File the FOIA, it costs you nothing and I’m sure you can email it to the County Clerk’s Office. Your failure to do so certainly implies you’d rather pound on the dead horse than get your answers. At least you’ve confirmed, once again, that you’re all about grandstanding and nothing about substance….typical.

  34. Just remember people, as Duncan knows, there is a time and place for everything. So really?, Eric and the rest…….now is not the time but do not underestimate Duncan

  35. “Whatsa matter Eric, not man enough to standup for yourself?”

I am here Baby Boo Boo, I don’t have a job like you and Voter, I don’t work for the government and I can’t post all day long like you two can on the taxpayers dime.

By the way, what happened to all that ranting about ignoring me?

You just can’t keep that big mouth shut, can you?

But seriously, who can blame you, when in such a short time the new regime is collapsing, and you can’t do a danm thing about it.

As for underestimating Baby Boo Boo, I don’t, considering how close Baby Boo Boo is with Bianchi.
