Man Without Seat Belt Dies on Rt. 31 in Ringwood

Sheriff’s Office Investigates a Two Vehicle Fatal Traffic Crash

A 38 year old McHenry man was hospitalized in stable condition and a 57 year old Richmond man was pronounced dead at the scene of a two vehicle crash on Illinois Route 31 south of School Road in unincorporated Ringwood.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser was traveling southbound on Illinois Route 31 at 4:56 a.m., Thursday, when the unit entered the northbound lane of travel while rotating counterclockwise.

A 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 was traveling northbound on Illinois Route 31.

The front end of the Chevrolet hit the right side of the Chrysler causing the units to exit the roadway to the east.

The driver of the Chevrolet, Michael J. Reid II, 38, was transported by ambulance to Centegra Hospital in McHenry.

Reid was wearing his seatbelt and there was airbag deployment in his vehicle.

The driver of the Chrysler, Charles W. Schultz, Jr., 57, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Schultz was not wearing his seatbelt, although there was airbag deployment in his vehicle.

An investigation is ongoing by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Traffic Crash Investigations Unit and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office. Members of the McHenry Fire Protection District also assisted at the scene.
