Rt. 31 Electronic Billboard Approved

The Unified Development Ordinance was passed by the McHenry County Board last year.

It apparently allows electronic billboards in unincorporated areas.  I’m not sure what the limitations are.  Perhaps someone will look them up and post them in a comment.

In any event, an electronic billboard is coming to Route 31 across from the gravel pits.

This is unincorporated area between Algonquin and Lake in the Hills.  (LITH has annexed land along Route 31 south of Crystal Lake, where the Walmart is located.)

The eleven voting in favor were

  • Diane Evertsen
  • Andrew Gasser
  • John Hammerand
  • Tina Hill
  • Ken Koehler
  • Donna Kurtz
  • Bob Martens
  • Mary McCann
  • Anna May Miller
  • Mike Skala
  • Mike Walkup

The ten voting against were

  • Michele Aavang
  • Yvonne Barnes
  • Joe Gottemoller
  • John Heisler
  • John Jung
  • Don Kopsell
  • Bob Nowak
  • Michael Rein
  • Carolyn Schofield
  • Larry Smith

Sue Draffkorn and Chuck Wheeler did not attend the meeting.

Nick Provenzano was not in the room when the vote was taken.

  1. Wait… Tricky Nicky was not in the room when the vote was taken?

Typical Provenzano fashion, when an important vote comes to the floor all of a sudden he has to go to the bathroom.

    What a joke.

  2. Interesting that holding a cell phone is a hazard but looking at a billboard is not.

Wonder how many crashes per year result from drivers reading a billboard.

No way to prove such a collision unless someone admits to it.

Most drivers probably wouldn’t volunteer they were looking at a billboard when they got in an accident.

Actually if someone was interested and had the time in this instance they could compare crash statistics (assuming that’s public information), pre-billboard vs post billboard.
