The following post card from Lakewood write-in candidate Paul Serwatka appeared in my mailbox this morning:

The text pledges, “Truth, Transparency & Accountability.”  He asks that people vote for him alone.

Serwatka quotes incumbent Lakewood Village Trustee Gary Sexson as saying in his campaign piece,

“The Sportsplex development is currently a dead issue with no vote from the board planned.”

Serwatka then quotes Village President Erin Smith:

“Gary’s statement is misleading and I suggested that he word it differently.  Based on my conversation with Gary, I understand that ‘Dead’ was Gary’s way of communicating the same message that we have communicated in the Village newsletter:  that we do not YET have a redevelopment agreement that is ready for formal consideration.”

Serwatka concludes,

“Gary along with fellow trustees distributed these deceptive flyers.

“It’s time to vote for REAL transparency, not ‘wiggly words’ and deceit.”

  1. Thanks Paul for calling this exactly what it is.

From everything I’ve read, witnessed and heard, starting five years ago, Lakewood Board is going to tell Lakewood (and anyone who will listen to their flowery rhetoric)whatever they want the residents to believe and they certainly don’t want someone like Paul to expose them.

    Go get em, Paul!

Lakewood, you finally have someone who’s smarter then average.

  2. Yep, Gary stepped in it with that one.

Not a surprise Paul is capitalizing, I would too, it’s a good piece.

However, Lakewood is sound financially and is a safe place to live with decent roads.

I do not buy into the doom and gloom being promoted, particularly by posters on this blog.

  3. Good luck, Paul. You are an honest, fair and intelligent man.

    Rare in this business.

At least you have already brought a good debate to the forefront…

I hope I have the chance to work with you in the future.
