Lightning Hits Algonquin Home

A press release from the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Department:

Residential Fire

On Thursday morning, April 9, 2015 at 6:50 a.m. the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District was dispatched for a structure fire at 27 Circle Drive, Algonquin, IL.

The reported cause was a lightning strike to the roof.

First arriving crews were on the scene at 6:54 a.m., and found a two story single family home with a light haze showing from the roof. Fire crews were able to locate the fire in the attic.

The fire was declared out at 7:10 a.m. Crews remained on the scene until 8:30 a.m. investigating, ventilating the home and checking for extension.

The house was occupied the time of the incident and all of the occupants escaped without injury.

A damage estimate is not yet available.

No firefighters or civilians were hurt.

Assistance was provided by the Carpentersville, Crystal Lake, Fox River Grove, Huntley, Cary, East Dundee and Palatine Rural Fire Departments as well as the McHenry County Sheriff’s
