LITH Apartment Fire, One Rescued, 18 Units Unlivable

Apartment Building Fire

On Wednesday morning, April 15, 2015 at 12:00 a.m. the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District was dispatched for a structure fire at 1363 Cunat Court, Lake in the Hills, IL.

First arriving crews were on the scene at 12:03 a.m., and found a three story apartment building with heavy fire and smoke showing from the second and third floors.

Fire crews were able to control the fire from the exterior and then make their way inside the building to extinguish and search for occupants. The fire was declared out at 12:45 a.m. Crews were still on the scene past 3 a.m. investigating the cause of the fire.

Many of the apartments were occupied the time of the incident and one person was rescued from the third floor balcony via ladder and transported to Sherman Hospital in Elgin.

The resident is listed in stable condition.

Lake in the Hills Police Department arrived first on the scene and were able to alert ten residents to evacuate prior to Fire Department arrival.

Approximately twenty to thirty residents are displaced from 18 units.

A damage estimate is not yet available.

No injuries to firefighters or police officers were reported.

Assistance was provided by the Carpentersville, Crystal Lake, Fox River Grove, Huntley, Cary, West Dundee, Marengo, Wauconda, Elgin, McHenry, Rutland Dundee, Barrington- Countryside, Fox Lake, and Nunda Rural Fire Departments.
