Lakewood Celebrating Arbor Day

A press release from the Village of Lakewood:

Village Celebrates Arbor Day

The Village of Lakewood will hold its annual Arbor Day celebration on Friday, April 24, at 10:00 a.m.

Lakewood leafThe location for this year’s tree planting ceremony will be at the intersection of Haligus and Conley Roads, along the East side of Haligus. The public is welcome to attend the event.

This year, the Village will be planting a Red Maple.

According to the Arbor Day Foundation, these trees bring color to the landscape year-round. Green stems turn red in winter, new leaves are red-tinged, turning to green.

Fall color is deep red or yellow. Flowers are also red.

The tree is fast growing and tolerant of many soils, growing as high as 40′ to 60′, with a 40′ spread.

Residents are encouraged to support the Village’s continued efforts to protect our trees and woodlands, as well as to plant more trees to promote the well-being of this and future generations.

For further information, please contact Lakewood Village Hall at 815/459-3025 between 8:30am and 4:30pm, Monday through Friday.

  1. What about all the trees in the TIF Route 47 & 176 TIF district including all the trees in the Crystal and Craig Woods golf course and the trees on the NE corner of the south leg of Route 176 & 47.

Presumably some if not many of them will be on the chopping block to make way for development.

  2. Hey Gary Sexson make like a tree and leave.

    Serwatka’s taking over!!! (couldn’t resist)
