Unseatbelted Harvard Man Dies in Paulson Road Pickup Crash

Sheriff’s Office Investigates Single Vehicle Fatal Crash

Richard J. Shields, 58, of Harvard was pronounced dead after a single vehicle crash in the 2300 block of Paulson Road, at 4:24 a.m. today in unincorporated Harvard.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was traveling northbound on Paulson Road when the truck left the roadway to the east, came back across, then Shields, the driver and sole occupant of the Chevrolet, was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The investigation is ongoing by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Traffic Crash Investigations Unit and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.

Members of the Harvard Fire Protection District also assisted at the scene.
