A commenter asked what fire commissioners get paid.
The starting pay is $1,000 a year.
If three training classes of 8-10 hours are taken, the salary can go as high as $3,375 per year.
To maintain that level, one must take an additional 8-10 hours of continuing education each year.
The district, by the way, has eight full-time employees and 170 part-time employees.

Schaeffer should not be elected again.
She is a nice person but she retired and make room for someone new and not double up on pensions like all of the bloggers here cry about.
Is this a paid appointed position?
If so, what is the $ number?
The Fire Protection post is appointed, not elected.
Regarding compensation of the appointed trustee.
Neither McHenry County nor the McHenry Township Fire Protection District lists whether or not the position is compensated.
For comparison, DuPage County addresses that issue in its ACT Transparency Portal.
http://www.co.dupage.il.us/CountyBoard/AppointiveBodies.aspx
DuPage lists trustee compensation and other basic facts about the taxing districts / agencies for which the county board appoints trustees.
Listed on the DuPage County website for each such taxing district / agency is:
– Website
– Contact (County Board contact Name, Address, Phone)
– Location (Taxing district / agency address)
– Responsibilities
– Meeting Schedule
– Term
– Appointed By
– Compensation
– Qualifications
– Composition (# of trustees)
– Authority (ILCS reference)
– Appointee (Name, First Date of Appt, Current Term Expires, & Position)
– Financial Information (AFR) for past 4 years or so.
Which saves time, as the alternative is Google searches, sending emails, and making phone calls.
So we taxpayers have no way of knowing if or how much the position pays in McHenry County?
