East Dundee, IL – Kane County Republican Vice-Chairman Allen Skillicorn of East Dundee is exploring a run for State Representative in the suburban 66th State House District. Skillicorn has supported incumbent State Representative Michael Tryon since they were re-districted together in 2010.

While Skillicorn respects Tryon’s legacy and leadership, a house member with energy is needed to thwart Speaker Michael Madigan’s grip on the state house.

“In Springfield at the Capitol I’m seeing sham bills, talks of tax hikes and a lack of any true reform.”

Skillicorn continued, “I’m tired of Mike Madigan and his political allies dragging the whole state of Illinois down with them.”

This map of the 66th state representative district was created by Drew Veeneman, a political consultant based in Elgin.

Locally as village trustee Skillicorn has broadened transparency, accountability and fought against property tax hikes.

Working together with his fellow trustees, Skillicorn froze the tax levy in 2011, his first year in office.

Those same municipal property taxes remain frozen today.

The 66th State House District follows the Fox River Valley including parts of Algonquin, Crystal Lake, East and West Dundee, Elgin, Gilberts, Huntley, Lake in the Hills, Lakewood and Sleepy Hollow.

West Dundee Village Board member Dan Wilbrandt, who works is a McHenry County Assistant State’s Attorney has also indicated his intention to run for the seat now held by State Rep. Mike Tryon.

Wilbrandt did so in a campaign disclosure filing with the Illinois State Board of Elections.

Wilbrandt has yet to report any contributions, although those under $1,000 would not have to be reported until the middle of July, the deadline for the next quarterly report.

Skillicorn reported having $7,755.68 at the end of March and put another $1,000 of his own money into Taxpayers for Skillicorn on April 13th.

Tryon donated $200 to his campaign fund on March 22nd. Previously, $250 was donated in August of 2014 and $200 in January of 2014.

Looking at past reports, Drew Veeneman has done consulting for Skillicorn.

In April, 2014, the Republican Liberty Caucus of Illinois contributed $369.16. It was formed by Skillicorn and $3,341 in the bank at the end of March.

Jim Oberweis gave $500 in March of 2014.

Skillicorn has contributed $4,000 of his own money to his campaign fund and $500 to Tryon.

Other contributions he and his wife Heather have made have gone to the Pro-Life Victory Committee ($325), based in McHenry County, and Cliff Surges ($1,400), who ran in the GOP primary against Karen McConnaughay.

The largest was $1,500, just made May 29th, to the DuPage County Republican Central Committee. There, Skillicorn listed his occupation as Executive for the Republican Liberty Caucus.

Other contributions from Skillicorn can be found here.

  1. If you can help or better yet get that Maddy gang outta there I’m for you!, while your at it put in Term Limits asap!

  2. It will be interesting to see how heavily Rauner gets involved in the state Senate and Representative primaries.

Hopefully the candidates can agree on some core issues and not beat each other up too bad.

The Democrats are much more organized statewide than the Republicans.

We will see how successful the Republicanse are at organizing at the county level and getting a ground game to articulate and spread their points.

The Lt. Governor has been making an attempt to reach out to the Hispanic community on her website.

Pensions in general and in particular hiked pension benefits and the hiked salaries which hikes the pension remains the biggest financial problem in the state.

Pension benefits were hiked even though pensions were underfunded, annual empoyer / state pension contributions were being shorted, salaries were being hiked, and in some years current benefits and retiree benefits were also being hiked.

The pensions would be fully funded if pension benefit levels were at 1970 and salaries and current and retiree benefits were more reasonable.

But underfunding pensions allowed for more generous salary and current benefit hikes, amongst other expenditures.

So now there is a big mess with only painful ways to fix the mess.

What is more fun, participating in the party or cleaning up after the party is over.

  3. Want to get Madigan out of office, move down there and run against him.

Otherwise you are just changing a name not increasing Rep power.

If it’s really about getting rid of Tryon, go for it with my blessing.

  4. The Nob, why don’t you just admit you are buddies with Tryon.

It’s about time he has opposition.

    What’s is wrong with competition?

    Go for it Allen!

Tryon just about ruined the McHenry County GOP.

    He needs to go away.

He’s been in office way too long.

  5. I’ve heard whispers of another even more formidable candidate who will be running for this seat.

A staunch liberty minded, TRUE conservative who is an absolute fighter in every sense of the word.

We can only hope these whispers are true.

  6. Is Tryon actually a Republican …….

    that’s news to me!

  7. Tryon is just as Republican as Anna May Miller, Barb Wheeler and Pam Althoff!

  8. Miss Uppity learn to read for comprehension, I said go for it with my blessing.

  9. con on, Surely the four you mentioned aren’t hard right Christian conservatives, but they aren’t Libs either.

So what is a Republican by your definition?
