‘Ethical lapse’ alleged in MCC race
During the campaign Lakewood Village President Erin Smith was the treasurer of the campaign committee that supported the election of elected incumbent and McHenry County College Board President Ron Parrish.
Among the other candidates were Smith’s husband, Mike, an appointed incumbent, plus Woodstock newcomer Karen Tirio.
In marshaling the campaign’s resources, campaign manager Steve Willson, also a Lakewood resident, got suggestions from supporters with regard to possible volunteers and contributors.
Among those supplied by Erin Smith were two principals in the SportsPlex development.
Inextricably combined with the SportsPlex proposal was the formation of a Tax Increment Financing District that is predicted to be able to raise $66 million.
In today’s article, reporter Emily Coleman also po
ints out that Mike Smith, after getting elected with the help of the campaign effort put together by Willson, did not vote for his running mate Parrish for re-election as President of the College Board.
Instead, he voted for himself to replace Parrish.
And the vote for Smith was 4-3.
