Jack Franks provided the 71st vote for the one-month budget that Governor Bruce Rauner has announced he would veto.

It takes 71 votes to override a gubernatorial veto.

Franks has branded himself as an “INDEPENDENT.”

Not so independent of House Speaker Mike Madigan, his vote shows.

Since taking criticism, he has made several Facebook posts, which appear below:

Not an attitude just the facts.

Also I haven’t voted for a budget in years precisely because they were unbalanced and spoke out again them.

That’s why I am considered the most independent member of the general assembly.

A fact I am very proud of.

I do what’s best for my constituents and don’t care at all about party lines.

Allen it’s not a 12 month budget therefore you can’t multiply by 12.

I also offered 1.5 billion in cuts and 1 billion in increased revenue by revamping the lottery.

I proposed workable solutions that will balance the budget without raising taxes Additionally the bill that passed yesterday contained funding for one month only of Medicaid which the courts ordered us to fund.

I believe that we can get to a fair budget solution without the necessity of raising taxes which I repeatedly stated yesterday The bill that passed will give us that opportunity to allow compromise and shared sacrifices by cutting state spending.

I suggest you listen to my floor speech you may learn something.

  1. Mike to Bruce, when back to Mike and the spin goes on and on and on.

Jack is a good Waltzer, not new news.

  2. == “I proposed workable solutions that will balance the budget without raising taxes.==

So why did you abandon your “workable solutions” to vote for the 1 month unbalanced budget?

I’d have thought you’d want to vote “no” to give your caucus a chance to adopt your “workable solutions”.

There’s nothing magical about 71 votes, is there?

  3. Maybe this is the very first time that Madigan actually REALLY needed Franks vote?

Could it be that other instances have occurred when Franks vote against a Madigan budget were ALLOWED because Madigan had a super majority without Franks support?

  4. Where are the details in how revamping the state lottery results in 1 billion in new revenue?

  5. Rauner hates this type of government.

You know the one that has a little thing called seperation of power?

When the IL supreme court and the legislature disagree with you and your ideologies it’s called democracy.

You know the type of government that separates us from the Kim Jungs of the world?

Rauner and his team needneed to call a time out to go back to the huddle rethink their game.

  6. With a Democrat as Governor, Madigan did not need to override a veto.

  7. 71 is the number of votes needed to override a veto of the Governor.

  8. This just shows Jacks true colors NOT the conservative portrait that he paints for the citizens of the county he is supposed to represent.

If you don’t believe me call his office and instead of listening and talking they think the way to go is to argue and call you names.

    Go Steve Go!!!

  9. First, Franks was damned if he did, damned if he didn’t.

If he votes against the bill, Franks is the guy that shut down Illinois Government.

If he votes for it, you lot get to howl about a double standard.

Second, bravo Jack for not being an ideologue like what some of your constituents think they want.

I want a pragmatist in office representing reason NOT sending Illinois credit rating into the toilet by shutting down government and creating instability, which markets and job creators hate.

  10. Oh Duncan, ideologically we will never see eye to eye, but at least we agree on the choice of buttered popcorn.

  11. Hey, you are the one eating popcorn, not me.

Why don’t you ask Jack what he’s got in his pail?

And, it appears you are two noodles short of a full plate of spaghetti, as you continue to indulge in that famous popcorn.

  12. Wow on come on, the Debt Enlarging Maniacs (DEM) will waltz it that it’s Brucy and the Rep’s fault like normal.

That’s a given, Jack will slide out of the cross hairs in a week or so like normal.

  13. **There’s nothing magical about 71 votes, is there?**

So the guy who ran against Jack Franks doesn’t understand what is “magical” about 71 votes?

    Really?

No wonder why Franks won comfortably.

  14. Franks vote seems to be to buy time.

Maybe that is a good idea.

If he votes for another extension, it will be Hypocrisy

  15. How is it that we are forgetting that Mike Tryon stated he would vote to increase taxes in a speech last week?!

  16. How is it that we are forgetting that Mike Tryon stated he would vote to increase taxes in a speech last week?!?!

  17. He said it while they were on the floor for the temporary budget bill!

    It’s ridiculous!
