Car Crashes into Hope Covenant Church

A week or so ago, teenage members of Hope Covenant Church were standing at the corner of Ackeman and Rakow Roads urging people to come for drive-through prayers.

Now a press release from the Crystal Lake Fire Department tells of someone at least responding to the “drive-through” part of the message.

Car into Church – 451 Ackman Rd, Crystal Lake

On August 1, 2015 at approximately 8:37 PM, the Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department responded to a car into First arriving Crystal Lake units, at 8:43 PM, reported one vehicle into the building with the driver out of the vehicle and in the parking area.

The sole occupant of the vehicle was treated by EMS and released at the scene.

The church was unoccupied at the time of the incident and no other injuries to any firefighters or civilians were reported.

The scene was secured by fire and police personnel and hazards were removed. The Crystal Lake Police Department is investigating the incident.

Initial damage estimates are $45,000.

The building was deemed uninhabitable by the City of Crystal Lake Fire Department due to wall and ceiling damage from the collision.

Hope Covenant Church will be closed for Sunday morning worship.

The City of Crystal Lake Building Division will further evaluate the structural damage to the building.
