Duffy Doesn’t Spend Office Allowance

A press release from State Sen. Dan Duffy:

Sen. Duffy Returns Money to Taxpayers

State Sen. Dan Duffy (R-Lake Barrington) cut his Senate office budget last year by 35 percent and again this year by 37 percent. Duffy has returned over $60,000 to Illinois taxpayers for Fiscal Year 2014 and Fiscal Year 2015.

At a time when the Madigan Democrats in Springfield refuse to operate within a balanced budget, Sen. Duffy has not only balanced his office budget—but he has reduced it by over 35 percent and returned the extra money to taxpayers.

“Illinois is hurting. We have the highest debt and the lowest credit rating in the nation. What will it take for the Madigan Democrats to stop their reckless spending?” said Duffy.

“As a small business owner for over 20 years, I know what it takes to balance a budget.

“Every hard-working family and small business must live within their means in order to survive and thrive in today’s economy.

“Why shouldn’t our leaders in Springfield be held to the same standard?”

Senator Duffy has created efficiencies in his office by streamlining day-to-day operations, reducing overhead costs and implementing an effective digital strategy to communicate with constituents. One example of how he saves money is reflected through his limited use of direct mail. Instead of mailing out multiple newsletters to his entire district, he has fully utilized e-mail, put his newsletters online and communicates directly with constituents through Facebook and other social media outlets.

“During my two-terms in the state Senate, I have seen government waste taxpayer money on a daily basis,” said Duffy. “Consistently increasing efficiencies in my Senate office has always been a top priority for me. The state’s budget crisis can only be solved if we make sacrifices and cut unnecessary expenses.”

As a member of Gov. Bruce Rauner’s Local Government Consolidation and Unfunded Mandates Task Force, Sen. Duffy has proposed several legislative initiatives that would create efficiencies across all levels of government—helping the state live within its means.

“For too long we have allowed the size and cost of government to grow exponentially,” said Duffy. “It is time we consolidate and eliminate units of government that no longer serve a viable purpose to the hard working taxpayers of Illinois. We need to work together to find a budget solution that is both balanced and sustainable.”

  1. THX Dan, it’s something. Hold your major pat on the back for him, Duffy is part of the Jack consolidation movement that ultimately could cost us way more than he is saving in his office budget.
