Township Consolidation Poll

Something after six Tuesday evening, a recorded woman’s voice asked if I had a minute to answer four questions about McHenry County.

How else could I report the survey’s contents to you without participating?

The first question said that a proposal to reduce the number of townships from 17 to 8 was being made on the premise it would save money.

Did I think consolidation would save tax dollars?

Yes, no or undecided.

The second question asked if I favored putting it on the ballot?

Same choices for answers?

Third, how would I vote?

Again, yes, no or undecided?

Finally, the pollster sought which party I was affiliated with. She started with Democrat, then, Republican, finally, Independent.

If you get the same poll, please indicate your township in the comment section.

Township Consolidation Poll — 17 Comments

  1. Got a phone call polling about the township consolidation issue today.

It was on my answering machine, so needless to say I didn’t get to participate.

Phone call came in on 217-303-5799

  2. We got it way out here in Alden Township, as well.

The questions indicated a bias toward putting it on the ballot and approving it, otherwise if one were to answer “undecided” after the first, and “no” after the second, the survey should have ended.

These polls aren’t cheap, I wonder who’s footing the bill for this.

  3. Governor has a mission ?

Why only is McHenry County the target

  4. It would be a more productive use of time and money to state the case to voters financially on a spreadsheet.

  5. No one wants to talk about the actual issue just saying it is so should be good enough for the uninformed voter

Just look at Nunda township put a referendum on the ballot for a single garbage service.

It passed and then when it is put in place they all cry like babies saying it is not fair we should be able to choose.

Well guess what you were given a choice and those who say I didn’t know shame on you.

Those same people are going to vote to consolidated township because it sounds good until they get their first tax bill after the consolidation and all cry foul play

  6. I ignore any number coming from Springfield but the number that called tonight matches the one Cindy reported. (Nunda Township)

And I agree with Mark, just put the numbers out there.

I honestly don’t care about anyone’s false expectation of job security.

  7. Why did the Chief Investigator and an Investigator from Lou Bianchi’s States Attorney office show up at the Task Force meeting yesterday?

    Both are GOP committeemen.

The Task Force was created by Joe Gottemoller who is the Attorney for the County GOP but who is really driving this issue on to the ballot?

Michele Aavang hit the nail on the head.

This is another example of the Southeastern part of the County represented on the Task Force by Kurtz, Shorten and Schofield attempting to force their will on the less populated areas of the County.

    REFERENDUMS COST TAXPAYER MONEY!

  8. Undecided, not enough numbers and facts.

No, not without the proper numbers and facts.

No, if nothing more is added.

BBA Party, the other two are killing the country.

  9. Why not ask, should we create 17 separate governments to maintain a portion of the unincorporated roads, some of which service only private subdivisions, do assessments, give people small checks while they are waiting for public aid to kick in, maintain unused cemeteries, and distribute the offices and garages randomly throughout the county without regard to existing road and population densities?

  10. if: all the objections seem to be to consolidation, not eliminating wasteful redundancy,

then: change the referendum question to : “should we abolish townships?”

have in place a resolution for the contingency: road service and assessments until new form of government kicks in.

    what’s the impediment to that?

  11. This is some kind of political payback for sure.

The rumor is its because the Townships were supporters of Nygren and Zinke.

The idea comes from the “new leadership” in the party.

  12. Why are you calling us over phone?

Can you meet us in Face To Face so we know who we talking to???????

    I won’t punch you.

  13. Nob…it would be nice if you would let the rest of us in on your payback information…

what the payback is and who benefits
