Once on scene, officers met with the complainant, who reported Daniel T. Hawkins (23 years of age), had pointed a handgun at him during a verbal dispute.

Early information gathered strongly suggested Daniel Hawkins, a resident of the home, had retreated back into his home before the police arrived on scene.

Officers secured a perimeter around the home and a wider perimeter around the subdivision to prevent any non-emergency traffic from entering the general area.

As a precautionary measure the Crystal Lake Police Department initiated a public alert to the residents in the area and notified Crystal Lake School Districts 47 and 155.

Several attempts made to contact Daniel Hawkins within the home failed.

With the assistance of the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System’s Emergency Services Team, additional resources were deployed in an attempt to make contact with Daniel Hawkins; however, these attempts failed as well.

During the investigation it was determined Daniel Hawkins was not within the home and no threats to the general public were identified.

This event has every appearance of being uniquely related to the individuals involved.

As a result, the scene was released at approximately 6:30 pm.

The Crystal Lake Police Department secured an arrest warrant and criminal complaint for Daniel Hawkins for the offense of Aggravated Assault, a Class A Misdemeanor: 720 ILCS 5/12-2(c)(1).

His current whereabouts are not known.
