Andersson Running for Re-Election

A press release from State Rep. Steve Andersson:

STATE REPRESENTATIVE STEVE ANDERSSON

Geneva, IL – State Representative Steve Andersson has begun circulating petitions for re-election to his 65th District legislative seat. Representative Andersson, currently in his freshman term wants to continue the efforts he has begun; to reverse the worsening fiscal condition of our state as a member of the General Assembly.

“Unbalanced budgets and increasing debts continue to plague the people of this great State.

“We must continue to fight those who would overspend and pass unbalanced budgets without regard for the devastating consequences such actions have on our people,”

said Andersson.

Representative Andersson was first elected to the Illinois Legislature this past November, and sworn in to office just nine short months ago.

“To achieve our goals, I once again ask for your support.”

In the announcement, Andersson touched specifically on a number of areas that must be addressed. He said that

1) “We need to change the Springfield mindset that has governed Illinois for too long. Entrenched politicians care more for their own positions than for good government. That’s why, in my first term, I introduced bills to enact term limits, a fair mapping process and election reform. We need citizen legislators, not career politicians.” In that same vein, Andersson refused to accept the pension plan and health care offered to legislators, saying that such perks are “part of the problem that creates career politicians.”

2) “We need to reduce the burdens of taxation on our citizens. Taxation from income taxes to property taxes is driving our citizens and businesses away. In order to reduce this burden we need to eliminate waste, fraud and abuse in our government. We need to consolidate services where possible and then prioritize our spending. And when we have spent all that we estimate we will receive, we need to stop spending! We need a balanced budget and to stop chronic overspending.”

3) “Illinois is a state with people who have strong values and know how to live those values. Those values have served our people well for generations. We need to insure that local control is maintained so that our citizens can decide what is best for their communities. I will continue to fight so that Springfield politicians don’t control the citizens of the 65th District.”

In Anderssson’s short time in Springfield he has quickly been recognized as one of the new leaders in the General Assembly with a strong independent voice. He was appointed by Minority Leader Jim Durkin to serve on several key talks forces including the critically important Education Funding Task force; the Committee on violence prevention in our school and communities; and the  Illinois Supreme Court Committee studying court fees and access to justice.

Andersson also was chosen for, and completed, a leadership training program at the 21st Annual Bowhay Institute for Legislative Leadership Development. “It was a rare honor to participate,” said Andersson, “only 3 legislators from Illinois were chosen and I was honored to be among them.

“I will use the skills and ideas I gained from the institute for the benefit of the people of my district and the State.” The program, called one of the premier leadership training programs in the nation, gives legislators in the region the opportunity to enhance their skills through a unique educational experience.

Andersson finished his announcement by stating that he “believes that our state has the potential to be great again. With the support of the people of the 65th District, we can achieve that greatness.”
