Millers Set Fundraiser — 20 Comments

  1. A continuation of Miller Time on the taxpayer dime!

How many of the Miller’s by blood and marriage are living off the taxpayer dime through some form of government job and/or pension?

Cal, can you publish the figures on the Miller clan alone?

More IL Government lifers, entrenched in cronyism, whose primary focus after getting elected is setting the table to get elected again preferably at an increase in salary. It goes without saying that I will forgo the opportunity to cut the cheese with the Millers.

  2. I imagine much of the Wine and Cheese evening will be dominated by lobbying against any action of the McHenry

Coubty Board and its Task Force to put the issue of Township Consolidation on the ballot for the March, 2016 Primary.

Guess they don’t want the public to interfere with what has been a very cozy arrangement for too long.

Speaking of the Task Force, the meetings were dominated by Township officials and employees, and, I understand, even a Township bus in the parkibg lot at the first meeting.

It seems these Township people choose to ignore the laws relating to Township Officials, specifically, Pages 218 through 220 which covers “Prohibited Political Activity” described in Township Officials of Illinois Laws & D8ties Handbook, revised 2011.

Yet another example of their/Townships’ disrespect for any position that challenges their existence.

  3. I wonder if the Millers would actually like to consolidate with another TWP that would give them a bigger tax base to scim money from .

they probably have a bigger campaign fund all the rest of the officials put together and could probably be elected in the new TWP.

  4. The Miller$ don’t want Consolidation!!!

That would require running against someone in order to stay in.

It would also enable things regarding their reign, to ‘come out’.

Believe me, they like things JUST as they are.

We need to Vote them Out!

Along with some of these other Highly paid (over the top) township salaries.

  5. Why don’t the nepotistic wastrel Millers just call it a ‘Whine and Sleaze’ soiree?

  6. I read many complaints about the Miller nepotism but I never see a serious candidate step forward.

Paul Serwatka stepped forward in Lakewood.

Who has the backbone to do the correct thing?

Quit your bitchin and run for the office of Road Commissioner already!!

  7. Those who go to this event are members of “Loser Central”.

Political sycophants who personally can’t stand being at the event but they feel obligated to show up because if they don’t it will be noticed.

If they’re not there, there will be negative political repercussions for them.

    How sad.

That’s a fact….and it’s one of the reasons our state is in the toilet.

  8. Skeptic, yes, blind support of either party is not good.

Partisan politics is killing this country.

  9. What partisan politics?

    Just look at D.C.:

    Stupid is – stupid does!

  10. Yhe consolidation vote on October 6 will show how many board members are.strong enough to buck the miller dynasty and their minions and support the measure to actually put voters first..

Remember…the miller sponsored consolidation map was to leave things as they are and take the choice out of the voters hands.

  11. watcher1940, I understand your feelings about the Miller’s, but why do you want our property taxes to go up which is what will happen with this consolidation nonsense?

Paying more in taxes is better than the Miller’s ya think?

    Wow!

  12. Nob, as usual…you just don’t get it…consolidation is all about tax relief, improved services and a vision for the future.

Seems like 80% of the voters (per cal’s poll) can see the wisdom of consolidation that you, unfortunately, choose to ignore.

    Take the township blinders off.

Being from a small township, I see no proof that taxes will go up and don’t give the standard “union” argument.

    It’s a red herring.

You and others that support the township status quo will just have to work a little harder at your argument.

And isn’t it strange that supervisor everetsen hasn’t had anything negative to say about this particular post concerning the millers.

    Speaks volumes.

    Must love wine and cheese.

  13. For Watcher1940 and anyone else interested.

The Consolidation Task Force information CLEARLY stated that in every case one of the Townships in every Consolidation scenerio will have a property tax increase.

This is based on the theory that assessments and levies will remain the same and be averaged for each consolidation proposed.

There is another theory that if one of the Townships in a consolidation levies for an item (not all townships levy for the same items) and the other one or two do not, after consolidation both or three of the townships will be levied for that item.

Using this theory, some Townships could see their property taxes increase by a factor of two or three.

My theory is that there will be no savings in any consolidation scenerio and in fact it is more likely to see tax increases.

Even the Task Force openly states that at least one Township in each scenerio will see a property tax increase.

Consolidating townships may reduce the number of government units but it BIGGER government.

  14. Those of you who live in the more populated areas of the County need to ‘clean up’ your own Township / Municipal boards and quit meddling in the affairs of those who live in the less populated areas.

For example, why do taxpayers in Crystal Lake accept the expense of the Park District?

The Park District that just obtained five motorcycles for their PARK POLICE!

Just like the County Conservation District does not need a police force, the City Park District does not!

    What next?

A Police force for the Library?

    Police Force for the schools?

BTW every time the County Board approves a Conditional Use, they are meddling in the affairs of those who live in the less populated areas.

The County has planning control over unincorporated areas of the County and the majority of the Board members reside in incorporated areas.

    How can they be objective?

  15. Watcher1940: Cal’s question, “Do you believe the efforts to consolidate townships within McHenry County should the decision of the voters or the county board”.

The county board pick or us, of course we should chose not them.

Where in that poll question does it ask if we want to consolidate or not?

Watcher1940, I’m sure this effort will cost at least half the county residents more, and most likely every resident more.

One Thousand $$$$$ bet, taxes will go up, are you willing to put your $$$$ where your lips are?

Winnings go to my favorite Charity, Vet orgs

  16. Nob, would like to take you up on that but I have to save my money for my taxes.

We have an inept township assessor but that’s another story.

Everetson, no wine and cheese comment?

Hope you enjoy it since everyone says you spoke the loudest next to Bob miller at the meetings.

Everything has a cost, doesn’t it?

I’d be afraid I’d choke if I had to break bread with the millers.

And, by the way, it’s been said before.

Millers wife should not be able to vote on any part of this consolidation issue.

Cal, don’t you have a comment on the legal aspect of such a conflict of interest?

Seems like you bloggers are too worried about the voters having a choice.

    Let them decide.

  17. watcher1940, name a amount you are comfortable with say $100, but let’s be real $1k isn’t much anymore sadly.

Thank the Fed gov for over printing money to pay it’s debts.

I’m in favor of voting on the issue, right after all the facts and numbers are made public which they haven’t been yet.

Something in the NWH, this blog, even mailers to each house hold, even the Chicago news papers.

As much info as needed to make for a well informed vote.

With the anti gov thing since 2009 economic turn down, I’d bet it would pass if the voters aren’t informed properly.

I’m sure that is on everybody’s mind and you are hoping that will be the case.

    Yamon!

So how about the bet, taxes will go up on Twhs by the 2018 levy because of consolidation.

Come on money talks whining is BS?

  18. Millers have so much money.

    They’ll be re-elected!

    Why wasn’t I invited?

Who gets to go to these things?

    Please advise
