County Moves to Resolve Some Veterans Affairs Commission Problems

Here’s what’s on the agenda for a joint meeting of the McHenry County Board’s Human Resources and Management Services Committees on Monday:

Since the VAC is not a department of the County, it is appropriate than an intergovernmental agreement be enacted to outline the respective obligations and responsibilities of both the VAC and the County.

In essence, this IGA reaffirms the current practices between the two parties. In addition to stating the respective requirements pursuant to State Statute, the agreement stipulates that the County will provide the VAC with general administrative services and name them an additional insured on out liability policies.

There are two exceptions, however, which stem from the VAC’s status as an independent entity:

  1. they will be required to retain separate legal representation as the SAO does not represent the VAC; and
  2. the employees will not be covered under the County’s worker’s compensation program.

You can find the proposed intergovernmental agreement here.

Here’s my question:

When will some local state legislator figure out that the VAC should not be a separate unit of local government and change state law to consolidate it with McHenry County government, thus saving the extra legal fees (which have been provided by the State’s Attorney’s Office) and worker’s comp costs (now provided under county government’s insurance policy)?

  1. In answer to your question, could it be due to the apparent lack of overall attention our elected officials pay to the plight of Veterans?

Why are there so many commercials for organizations collecting private money for Veteran care?

DHS has now assigned social social workers to work with Illegal Alien families:

“The stakeholder announcement explains that the program will offer “orientation and education to participants about their rights and responsibilities; Individualized family service plans; Assistance with transportation logistics; Assistance in securing access to housing, education, and medical providers (if needed); Tracking and monitoring of immigration obligations (to include attendance at immigration court hearings); and Safe repatriation and reintegration planning for participants who are returning to their home countries.”

Just why can’t our government support our Veterans?

  2. Many organizations are collecting for Veterans because the civilian guilt makes it a very profitable venture.

Look at the 990s of most of those organizations- INCLUDING WOUNDED WARRIOR and you will find Huge marketing budgets and salaries to self perpetuate raising money.

THere are numerous Vets in crisis- the VA is overwhelmed and busy handing out meds to staunch the flow of veterans returning to communities that can’t support them because that would mean acknowledging that less that 1% serve in what is now a professional military.
