Carol Marin Praises Franks for Anti-Tax Stance Two Days after Franks Proposes Huge Tax Hike

The story line for Chicago Sun-Times columnist Carol Marin was that backbenchers like David McSweeney and Jack Franks (pictured with McSweeney’s hands on his back and chest) ought to revolt and solve the budget problem in Springfield.

But, apparently after the column was pretty much completed, Marin learned of Franks’ introduction of a huge tax hike bill.

The Illinois Manufacturing Association launched a withering attack on Franks as a result.

Marin described it as “a comprehensive bill on closing corporate tax loopholes.”

  1. It’s about time these corporate loopholes are closed as they didn’t produce middle class good jobs.

  2. Saying Franks is raising taxes is flawed logic.

Your argument is like if you said that you aren’t stopping water from draining out of a dam by plugging leaks.

The water was SUPPOSED to be in the dam already.

Stop deliberately misleading the public, Cal, you aren’t raising taxes by closing loopholes.

  3. Closing tax loopholes are tax hikes for any entities which had previously received the loophole.

If a net $1 dollar loophole is taken away, the result is a $1 tax hike for that entity.

    Here today, gone tomorrow.

The loophole is law it’s not illegal tax evasion.

  4. A business considers the entire cost of doing business at a certain location, and that includes taxes.

The vast majority of business employ at least some middle class people.

Probably true some of loopholes are be more effective than others at producing and supporting middle class jobs.

Not true an entire $1 Billion in tax breaks and incentives goes straight to investor pockets.

Notice the Franks bill eliminates enterprise zones upon it’s creation.

Enterprise zones are a Rauner idea to spur jobs including middle class jobs in select areas.

Have to wonder the role unions and union lobbyists played in crafting the Franks bill.

Want our campaign contributions, votes, and election assistance, here’s what we want.

  5. Will Republican concentrated McHenry county ever wake up to the Democrats?

Collectively, they have created the mess in the state.

  6. Mark,

My buddy who works at Americans for Tax Reform agreed that what Cal is arguing is not a tax hike.

    It’s tax reform.

You can’t tell me that Trump, Bush and Rubio – all who want to close loopholes – are raising taxes.

I can ox-dung on your semantical claim.

  7. If tax law is changed so a company has a net $1 less.

And the government has $1 more.

What do you want to name it.

    The company has less.

    The government has more.

  8. Does anybody care about, let alone read, the propaganda-scribbler Carol Marin?

If she ever told the truth … it would be by accident!

  9. Just because someone runs as a Republican doesn’t mean they are one. There are many Republicans who do not vote or act appropriately.

  10. DeFacto – Speaking some unwelcome truth, there!

and sitting back during the primary, pretending as though all Republicans are created equal is a sure way to watch the Republican party to continue to crumble.

  11. Carol Morin is a vapid dolt.

She is a moderately pretty face with an empty intellect.

Which, is basically the entire line up of mainstream media.

  12. Carol Marin has been an establishment Dem hoe since she started.

If you see her in person, she uses makeup by the trowelfull.

She has killed ratings everywhere she goes.

    Mark got this right.

One entity’s tax incentive is everyone else’s “loophole”.

Every dollar that goes to prop up existing government is a dollar misspent.
