Walkup Walk Piece

Ran across this campaign literature, which some might find of interest.

It’s what McHenry County Board Chairman candidate Mike Walkup is distributing as he seeks petition signatures.

Walkup Walk Piece — 27 Comments

  1. If he is for smaller government why does he vote to accept federal grants? Why does he vote for Township government consolidation which creates LARGER units of government?

  2. Mike has a strong backbone. Does his research and does not cave to the insiders. He is a natural leader and has done a great job on the county board.

  3. “If he is for smaller government why does he vote to accept federal grants? Why does he vote for Township government consolidation which creates LARGER units of government?”

Why can’t Mike Walkup agree with me on every issue?

  4. I find it hilarious that people still think electing attorneys is a good idea.

  5. Electing lawyers is certainly better than electing know-it-all housewives, simpleton farmers, career bureaucrats, office secretaries, cranky retirees, and most of the other freak shows on the County Board.

The problem is that people who are truly successful in life have much better things to do with their time.

  6. Another guy vowing not to take part in nepotism/patronage hiring etc. GREAT, LOVE IT!

If you win (or just being on the board) do you have the authority to start to rewrite policy in this county to make that an impeachable offense?

It’s a real problem in this county.

We already know it’s unethical. Let’s rid the rats from wanting to run, if they know they won’t be able to have their family get rich on the taxpayer dollars.

  7. We actually need someone on that board that knows the law.

Telling the current Chair when he should recuse himself is one reason!

  8. While I respect Mike, he seems to be lazy at doing his research at times, and following up after complaining.

After the women hired her husband he ranted about nepotism, that was awhile ago already and he hasn’t really done smit about it yet.

On consolidation and even elimination of townships he hasn’t even done a plan on how that would save us a penny.

Mid 1990s and still not plan on elimination, no hurry huh?

  9. I lose repect for Mike when he lies/misrepresents roads in Alg twh like he did just today on a different story.

Which was off story in fact.

  10. Nob: It turns out that you need a constitutional amendment to do anything about nepotism in the Clerk’s office and some other countywide elected offices.

I am told there will be some type of legislation proposed next Spring for those offices that something can be done about once the GA gets its budget on track (if that ever happens).

Nothing got done this past year in Springpatch.

Still working on nepotism in townships though. I can think of one in particular.

  11. You just proved my point, Mike.

Lotto legal mumbo jumbo you have to wade through?

Guess how it got that way.

  12. Mike how about before the election you at least get the county board to draw up a resolution that supports getting rid of nepotism, and at least curbing patronage?

Show some real effort and action, lip service not so much.

I doubt any new law would be retroactive.

You’ll never get rid of your particular, your consolidation almost gave them more Power!

Only Alg Twh voters can take out a popular and well liked dude.

With good health, that family could be in local politics/elected for another 20 years, Yamon.

  13. Nob, that’s why we should support and help Tom Wilbeck at least knock Miller off the county board!

And then do the same with whomever we can put up against Bob Miller and his clan!

  14. Mike Walkup you are a democrat running as a republican you are nothing more than a wolf in sheepskin clothing.

As far as the clerk at Least she has reduced the government foot print and made her office more efficient.

What have you done other than kiss Kurtz a$$ and others trying to prove you are a conservative NOT We need a leader not a follower

  15. Good luck with that Herb.

They are both well liked, people voted for the over all positive and over look the small negative.

Anyway the story is about Mike, who always waltzes when questioned about his actions or lack of them.

Mike hasn’t even really tried to really clean up the counties family affairs, his J O B

  16. lol these are the weakest attacks/criticisms against somebody that I’ve ever seen.

Some people don’t understand that county board vote on “township consolidation” actually was about. (County Board was not voting on consolidation, they were merely voting on whether to let voters vote.)

Got people complaining he favored township consolidation but also that township consolidation hasn’t happened so he deserves blame.

    What?

Got people who are blaming him for the complexities of government…because he was an attorney or something?

By the way, wasn’t Joe Gottomoller the Attorney for that Oakwood Hills power plant project?

    Remember that little debacle?

Got people mad at him for taking federal grants…scratchin my head at that one.

  17. Comments such as:

“Electing lawyers is certainly better than electing know-it-all housewives, simpleton farmers, career bureaucrats, office secretaries, cranky retirees, and most of the other freak shows on the County Board.

The problem is that people who are truly successful in life have much better things to do with their time.”

are an indication of how good a job the Progressives and Collectivists have done in ‘dumbing down’ the education in our country over the past 100 years.

I will take a government consisting of ‘simpleton’ farmers over a group of lawyers any day.

    Shakespeare had it right.

For Joe: The comment was relative to the fact that Mike Walkup remains to be one of the prime movers in favor of Township Consolidation.

Walkup claims he supports smaller government while his actions do not support that.

I also have problems with Gottemoller but he does not post on this blog.

Insofar as the cure for nepotism, we already have one: ELECTIONS

But, what is the lawyer solution?

    More government!

That said, one way to reduce nepotism and have a positive impact on term limits is to disallow the printing of the name (other than the signature on letters) on ANY taxpayer funded document or web site (other than a simple mention in the office directory and in meeting minutes).

Having the office holder name on pre-printed stationary and the office holder name displayed on web sites gives an incumbent an advantage and costs the taxpayer money when that person is voted out or leaves office.

    Remember the tollway signs?

  18. Shakespeare’s dialogue about

“The first thing we do, let’s kill all the lawyers”

was uttered by Dick the Butcher, who was conspiring to take over the government and make himself King. Henry VI, Part II.

You might want to try Dickens:

    “The law is an ass”.

    Oliver Twist.

  19. Selling your heritage (house) Mike?

    Moving to Valley Hi? 🙂

  20. Interesting.

The comment relative to the posting on the For Sale By Owner website has been pulled.

Good thing I took pictures of the screen.

Trulia still has a reference to the listing!

  21. If we must get this personal, due to having gone through a divorce last year I was considering downsizing while staying in the area.

However since that time one of my fellow county board members who has a fish raising hobby contacted me about using my greenhouse to develop an aquaponic business that we would to together.

This looked to be less work than the conventional farming and would give me some help as well so that is what I am doing now.

There should be fresh greens all Winter plus tilapia to sell in the Spring so come on over.

  22. Mike with today’s political games, which you throw rocks some also, you know it will get very nasty.

A shame really, but not really new games, just better media like this blog.

I’m bet Joe G feels about the same way, all part of the grab power game.

You ask for it you got it …..

    Greenhouse, legalization, big $$$$$. LOL
