Sheriff’s Office Investigates Personal Injury Traffic Accident

Two vehicles were involved in a personal injury traffic accident Monday morning in unincorporated Dorr Township near Route 176 and Dean Street.

Both drivers were injured.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a blue 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix was westbound on Route 176 just west of Dean Street in unincorporated Woodstock at about 8:50 a.m.

For unknown reasons, the vehicle drove onto the shoulder of the road and then into the oncoming traffic lane, striking a black 2008 Toyota Sienna travelling in the eastbound lane of Route 176.

The driver of the Toyota, Maria Binotti, 46, of Marengo, was transported by Woodstock Fire Protection District to Centegra Hospital – Woodstock, where she was listed in stable condition.

Maria was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Pontiac, James Caldwell, 28, of Wonder Lake, was transported by Woodstock Fire Department to Centegra Hospital – Woodstock, where he remained in serious to critical condition before being transported by ambulance to Lutheran General Hospital.

It is unknown if James was wearing his seatbelt.

Other factors contributing to the crash are unknown at this time, but alcohol is not believed to be involved.

The investigation is ongoing by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Traffic Crash Investigations Unit.

Huntley, Woodstock, and Lakewood Fire Departments all assisted at the scene. Members of the Lakewood Police Departments assisted with traffic control.
