Dr. Anne Majewski, McHenry County Coroner, is requesting permission to transfer $18,650 to cover costs of autopsies in October and November. from money in the Coroner Special Fund to the fund that pays for autopsies.

The memo to the County Board says the money will

cover additional costs for autopsies necessary to investigate the greater number of unnatural deaths primarily due to the increase in homicides and suspected  overdose and suicide deaths within the County during the 2015 fiscal year.

In the 11 months of FY 2015, 137 autopsies have been performed.  For comparison,  in  2014,

99 autopsies were performed and in  2013, 112 autopsies were performed.

In the first 10 months of FY 15, there have been 5 more homicides, 5 more suicides and 11 more drug overdose deaths to date than in FY 2014.

  1. That’s what I like to see in a public servant – service with a smile !

  2. Dollar wise, this office runs on a shoe string. Dr. Majewski needs more operational funds to begin with. I was shocked when I learned of how little the Coroners office has to run on.

The ‘statutory’ autopsies can put a large dent into this offices budget. There is nothing the coroner can do about this situation.

    Thank you.
