Accident Leaves Teen Boy in Critical Condition

A press release from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Department:

A 17-year-old remains in critical condition Tuesday after a single vehicle crash Monday evening in unincorporated Richmond Township

Preliminary investigation indicated that on Monday, around 9:05 p.m., a 2007 Toyota Matrix was northbound in the 7400 block of Pioneer Road, south of West Solon Road, in unincorporated Richmond, when the driver lost control.

The vehicle left the east side of the roadway, colliding with a tree, then overturning onto it roof.

The driver, a 17-year-old boy from Richmond, IL was treated by Richmond Fire Protection District, then flown by Flight for Life to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, IL, where the driver remains in critical condition.

The driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was wearing a seatbelt.

The front driver’s airbag deployed in the crash. It is believed that drugs and alcohol were not a contributing factor and the pavement was clear of ice and snow.

The investigation is ongoing by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Crash Investigations Unit.

Members of the McHenry County Conservation District Police assisted with traffic control.
