Before the Finance and Audit Committee this past week was a proposal to spend  $38,600 to pay for tax bills for the next two years.

Under an opinion of a previous State’s Attorney, the McHenry County Treasurer did not have to obtain County Board permission for expenditures over $20,000, which the County Purchasing Ordinance states.

A new opinion from Lou Bianchi’s Office said such approval was necessary.
