Winnebago County (think Rockford area), which now has fewer people than McHenry County (288,542 to 307,283) has a major county government scandal.
It has reached the top of Winnebago County government, resulting in the resignation of its Board Chairman, Scott Christiansen, after a county-financed sauna found its way to his home for a while.
The County Board Chairman is elected at-large.
Reacting to the scandal, the Count Board lowered the amount county department heads can spend without Board approval from $30,000 to $12,000 and cut credit card limits, the Rockford Register-Star reports.
The latest brick to drop was the FBI’s seizure of almost $300,000 from bank accounts from former Winnebago County Purchasing Director Sally Claassen and spouse, according to the Rockford Register-Star. (If you are interested, related stories are linked under the Register-Star’s story.)
They should audit all of these local counties because I am sure they would find more corruption.
Starting with the Cook County Democrats.
