Joe Tirio Responds to Michael Stanard’s Critique of Tirio’s Push to Abolish the Elected Recorder of Deeds

Saturday, McHenry County Blog published a critique by Micheal Stanard of McHenry County Recorder of Deeds’ candidate Joe Tirio’s move to “Erase the Recorder,” as he puts it on his campaign material.

Tirio replied in a comment, which is published below:

Joe Tirio’s Reply

Joe Tirio at Republican Headquaters.

Joe Tirio at Republican Headquaters.

Who is kidding who, indeed!

When I saw this note first published in the newspaper, I mistook you for a citizen at-large who had misunderstood my message.

Now, I know who you really are, Tina Hill’s Campaign Consultant.

Here is a screenshot of Tina’s 7/1/2015 Quarterly report showing your business providing campaign consulting. http://snag.gy/jlZFk.jpg

The questions you have posed have already been answered, and I have even offered to speak to you directly in case you had other questions.

So, since you have not reached out to me directly and your message is nearly identical to that which you submitted to the paper, I must conclude that your note is not intended to elicit information, but rather, to create confusion and misinformation.

What is saddest about this is not your weak attempt to discredit me, but rather that it appears that YOU are trying to trick the people of the County for the benefit of Tina Hill.

In your own words (my emphasis)

“The voters in McHenry County are not as credulous as YOU seem to think.”

As I have already answered your note once in great detail, I will simply direct you to EraseTheRecorder.com for my qualifications, experience and more about the process to eliminate the role.

Tirio erase the recorder dot comBut let me take a moment to expand on your math.

You are very correct.

The Recorder gets paid about $105,000 per year.

You are also correct that if I stay in the office for the full term, I would be paid $420,000.

So let’s see how it plays out if we elect your client, Tina Hill into office.

She said she will limit herself to two terms, so that would be $840,000 in salary.

Then she would retire.

Let’s make the reasonable assumption that she would live at least 20 more years.

For easy math, let’s say she drew a $50,000/year pension (I think it would be substantially higher).

That would be another $1,000,000 added to her $840,000 in salary.

That’s nearly two million dollars!

Suddenly, my $420K looks like quite a bargain.

Oh, one more thing…

As her Consultant, paid by her campaign committee, I would direct you to page 6 of the document titled “A Guide to Campaign Disclosure” published by our State Board of Elections. In the section titled “Disclosure in Political Communications” it says,

“Any committee that makes an expenditure for any kind of communication directed at voters and mentioning the name of a candidate in the next upcoming election must ensure that the communication clearly identifies the committee as having paid for it.”

In the future, you should be sure to include the “Paid for by Citizens to Elect Tina Hill” statement to ensure you don’t run afoul of campaign disclosure law.

Tina doesn’t need THAT added to her list of troubles.

Joe Tirio Responds to Michael Stanard’s Critique of Tirio’s Push to Abolish the Elected Recorder of Deeds — 24 Comments

  1. Joe do you pay property taxes in McHenry County?

do you receive a bill from Glinda Miller?

with your name on It ??

  2. The Recorder’s election is starting to develop a stench which is emanating from those opposed to the only male in that race.

First he gets attacked with a ridiculous letter / note from one of Tina Hill’s backers.

Now someone who uses the handle ‘nick’ is questioning the existence of a property tax bill.

    Ridiculous!

If you are really that interested, look it up!

There are taxes paid on the property where he lives.

BTW property tax payments are up to date!

The property tax rate is: 13.694577

IMO it is people like you and Stanard who are responsible for the reduction in the number of people who are willing to run for office or sit on public body committees because they do not want to expose themselves to the idiotic behavior of so-called adults.

  3. I did look up tax bill joe tirio is not a tax payer in Mchenry county and why is he running for public office and claiming to save tax payers when he himself is not one.

One would have to ask what is his motive.

Could it be he needs a paycheck one would have to believe that 105’000 is more than he has ever earned in any job.

If you ask me Karen I think your husbands whole campaign stinks and has since he has announced his intention to run for the recorders office.

  4. Time to put on the gas masks!

Making the statement that Joe Tirio is not paying any property tax is tantamount to claiming that people who rent do not pay property tax.

    IDIOTIC!!

The residence he lives in is in the name of his spouse.

Next thing we will read is that if someone places their residence in a trust, they do not property tax!

    Again!

    IDIOTIC!

The supporters of the other two candidates are grasping at straws!

  5. I got that same complaint about not paying property taxes when I ran for McHenry County Treasurer at age 23 in 1966.

“What? Someone who doesn’t pay property taxes collecting them?”

I found it amusing then and still do.

  6. I too would think it was humorous were it not for the fact that we are dealing with an increasingly ‘dumbed down’ voter.

When Cal was 23 we still taught the Constitution in public school.

    Now?

    Not so much!

Those of you pounding on doors, ask the voter what the Electoral College is and how it gets populated or ask who they support for delegate.

  7. IMO the Electoral College such be done away with.

We don’t need politicos making our choices for us anymore.

  8. Nob;

Doing away with the Electoral College would result in the most widespread corruption in the election of a President in history.

That would result in the bloodiest rebellion this country has ever seen, including the Civil War.

Besides, the small states would never ratify the Constitutional change.

  9. The out come of that change is you opinion not fact.

You must like same old same old.

  10. I think it matters if you are a tax payer- it shows that you have a vested interest in the community you serve.

And NO renters do not pay property taxes- the property owner- Who is making the investment and taking the risk is paying the property tax and have the consequences of the increase or lack of payment.

What I want to know is of the list of counties that do not have both offices- how many merged? and what was the reduction in head count?

because my assumption is many never had two offices and most have the same if not more staff.

You can not eliminate the office on your own.- and just like Dan Rutherford ran that he would merge the comptroller and treasurer- we still have both.

    It is a political trick.

Like saying you won’t take health care instead of championing that health care paid for by taxpayers Should be eliminated- it is all just a game of words.

Which of the candidates has EVER managed a staff of over 10 people?

    A budget over $500,000?

Show me proof you can do the job.

    Any of them.

County Clerk, County Recorder, Coroner- why are these positions elected?

If you don’t need job skills- the role is a pretend role that costs me money.

  11. I believe the question as to which counties have merged the offices was answered in a comment under a previous article.

Certainly McLean County has. That happened four years ago.

  12. once again Karen answered for joe.

Joe does not pay property taxes nor does andrew gasser.

it does make a different in our vote.

  13. There are a lot things that matter in today life then they did in the past.

We as voter just what the truth.

I do see the importance of paying property taxes in the county you plan on working in
we are talking about established people.

Not some young college kid !!!

People today don’t what to be involved with people that don’t address the real issues and inflate their stories to boost there ego.

The voters of McHenry County need to look at real facts and how much real money were are saving
I would challenge all candidates to post what your immediate saving would be not inflated numbers either

    Lets the truth be told.

  14. This county has Black Hole economic conditions.
3%-4.6% property tax rates overwhelm all other factors. Now it is a struggle for survival by most homeowners.

This economic crisis has been created by current officeholders, who have been cushioned by pay and pension while they let it ( or made it) happen.

In these conditions, I would argue that a vote for ANYONE not already employed in public office is the voter’s only logical hope of survival.

  15. ^This is why I wish we had set usernames and there could be no duplicates.

  16. Monarc senior care nepotism alive and well Karen Tirio hired by Joe Tirio and I thought he would not hire his wife, com

Nepotism is favoritism granted to relatives and friends without regard to merit.

The term originated with the assignment of nephews to cardinal positions by Catholic popes and bishops.

Nepotism can occur in various fields including: politics, entertainment, education and business. (Emphasis added) business nepotism is not limited to politics

Idiotic cannot even define a term.

  17. This is all very amusing indeed. LOL

As a landlord I will tell you—Renters DO pay Real Estate Taxes, INISH.

Where do you get the idea they don’t???

If I didn’t factor in all my expenses including Real Estate Taxes, in the rent I charge, I’d be out of business and bankrupt!

Don’t quit your day job, Hun.

Cal, your readership is growing more and more illiterates!

Nepotism isn’t a term used in private sector family owned business.

It’s a “family owned business”, for God’s sake!

PUBLIC SECTOR JOBS OR ELECTED OFFICES (that’s a govt. job incase you didn’t know that PABLO) should NEVER allow hiring family members.

It’s not only unethical, but it causes all sorts of problems and taxpayers don’t like it!

Joni already has her two daughters working in the govt. center.

All the Joni supporters seem to have received their education through the ShowBiz Pizza Dancing Bear Band!

God save us all if THAT gets in office.

  18. Tirio has come up with a viable plan and the opposition is threatened.

    And they should be!

Tirio has a Resume to put the others to shame and has the Ethics to live up to his word. No Nepotism on his watch! And a thoughtful authored/copyrighted Consolidation Plan to cut operational costs for our County. I know because I asked to see it and was refused permission to copy or publish.

Tirio has managed legions of people, at SBC Global, Hewitt and Abbott, has handled huge corporate budgets, developed award winning customer service tool outside the scope of his regular work load that saved the company million$.

Tasked with leading one of the largest mergers in US History SBC/Ameritech. (Safe to say he’s made more than $105K with cadillac insurance and plentiful pensions with these companies.)

Retired now, Tirio and his wife own a 5/5 star rated business in a heavily regulated industry.

They also run Voters In Action which helps taxpayers fight against govt waste, corruption and lack of transparency.

There could only be two possible reasons you’d be against him:

    1) You stand to gain by his one of his opponents winning (self/family member/friend hoping to get on that govt. gravy train) OR

    2) You are already on that gravy train and don’t want to lose your job if it’s considered redundant under Tirio’s plan.

  19. Who gives a rats ass whether Andrew gets a real estate tax bill?!! Nick you need to get a job or grow a brain.
The only thing I care about is how elected officials vote and Andrew’s voting record is excellent.

The Tirio’s are my neighbors and Karen bought that house way back in the 80’s when she was practically a kid.

I know they pay real estate taxes because I’ve professionally contested them along with those of their rental property.

More importantly, the plan Joe has to reduce government spending is a Win and it’s more than his opponents are willing to do.

Just heard that Cook County is also looking into merging the Recorder’s functions into the Clerks office and eliminating the Recorder’s elected position.

I want to see this momentum carry.

I’m for Joe because as a taxpayer myself, I’m all for reducing the size and cost of government!

SemperFi is right-who could be against this in any way? (except the few that stand to gain by the status quo)

  20. Tirio has never in his life held a job over 4 years. if he was so great with all theses copanies why isnt he still working there????????

5 star rated business , we were going thru facebook and monarch senior care had a very bad post.

that Karen and Joe left a 92 year old man laying on the ground for 2 hours !!!

why didnt u call 911, please go on monarch faceboof and check it out

  21. Specific plan to cut spending by McHenry County government.

    Everything else is irrelevant.

  22. He’s only had 3 jobs before becoming a full-time business owner:
AT&T (Longterm employee, Lineman to Exec Director, retired after merging Ameritech/SBC (now AT&T)
Aon-Hewitt, and Abbott Labs (Was asked to return to Aon-Hewitt to manage their largest client, Goldman Sachs, which he did)

I noticed that Joe’s two opponents only attack him (not each other.)

And this is natural as Tirio’s changed the landscape of politics in County Govt.

No Nepotism, cronyism, the ultimate in term limiting himself by abolishing the very office he’s running for! He did his research and has a bonafide PLAN to reduced costs for county operations.

*The status quo is very threatened by this.*

The only thing they can attack this guy for is coming up with this plan, by creating fear/doubt/uncertainty by saying it can’t be done.

It HAS been done and it should be done in this county.

Joe has published his plan, surveyed several county board members and will get it done!

Tina is against merging the Recorders office into the Clerk’s office, and so is Joni.

That says a lot about what their plan is for THEM.

Not what they can do for the county.

Although I’m endorsing several Candidates this is the only Candidate in all of the races that actually has a plan to save and has devised the blueprint to get it done.

He’s run a great Campaign and deserves your vote!
