NWH Endorses Wilbrandt for State Rep., Offers Negatives on Others

Wilbrandt NWH endorsement 2-25-16My surprise of the day was discovering that the Northwest Herald didn’t endorse Carolyn Schofield (as I incorrectly predicted).

Probably surprised her, too.

Dan Wilbrandt

Dan Wilbrandt

McHenry County Assistant State’s Attorney Dan Wilbrandt got the nod instead.

While the NWH found that both Schofield and Wilbrant were “best suited to work with the other side of the aisle,” Schofield’s leadership of the Township Consolidation Task Force was a deal breaker.

The paper called it a “fiasco,” because no effort was made to “seek a true cost analysis.”

With tongue firmly in check, the NWH observes that Schofield is supported by township supervisors.

Paul Serwatka’s not attending the paper’s interview session after saying he would, plus his short time in the office of Lakewood Village Trustee, eliminated him from endorsement consideration.

And the paper is spooked by the large amount of Political Action Committee money being spent in support of Allen Skillicorn. His backers use of newsprint to advance his candidacy probably didn’t help either.

Fascinatingly, the Editorial Board found “little difference,” no, “very little difference on the issues” among the candidates.

Hardly anyone else seems to share that opinion.

  1. Actually- alot of people feel that way- Often the audience of this blog uses a very narrow lens of their personal experience to make grand wide sweeping assumptions about the community at large and present them as fact.

Most people are not playing insider baseball – all of their mailings say they will fight taxes, work hard and love their families- no plan, no specifics, no difference.

You Cal, know them and therefore see a difference.

Not showing up speaks more about the level of professionalism than any thing his mailer could overcome.

  2. At least this isn’t a fake newspaper like the one Skillicorn’s PAC buddies have been sending out.

I’m glad NWH is backing Wilbrandt – he deserves some recognition and support.

  3. A Northworst Herald endorsement is a guarantee for lost votes.

Remember folks, “If the Herald got it right, it was by accident!”

  4. “Not showing up speaks more about the level of professionalism than any thing his mailer could overcome”

It is very specifically called “an Endorsement Interview”.

If a candidate is not interested in being endorsed by the organization, why would they attend?

  5. I knew I wasn’t going to get endorsed by the Northwest Herald.

I attended for the intellectual challenge.

  6. @Patrick Henry

Why would Serwatka attend the endorsement interview?

    BECAUSE HE SAID HE WOULD!!!

Serwatka didn’t just decline an invitation.

He was a no show after saying he would be there.

If he doesn’t want the endorsement, fine–turn down the invitation.

But don’t say you’ll show up without following through.

    “Un-bought, un-bossed, un-bullied”?

    Sounds more like un-reliable, un-professional, un-electable.

Not a good sign when a candidate is breaking promises and failing to deliver BEFORE election day.

  7. Pay attention to this race. Right now, the 2 candidates in the lead:

    1. IEA AND OTHER PUBLIC UNIONS BACKED CAND

    2. CHICAGO PAC BACKED CANDIDATE that the NWH has rightly so raised suspicions about his alliegences. (PAC OR THE PEOPLE OF OUR DISTRICT)

NWH got it right with this endorsement.

WILBRANDT is the only candidate that is running a grassroots campaign to make a difference for us.

I heard him speak a couple of weeks ago and am encouraged that we have a real conservative (who has original thoughts) and can articulate an argument against the ills of this state.

Don’t let flashy tv ads and multiple mailers buy your vote.

Don’t just take my word for it.

If you are truly undecided on this race, do your own homework and tell me if you agree.
