Lawyers Favor James Cowlin for Judge — 71 Comments

  1. It seems that the lawyers prefer the old-guard, Vrdolyak guy.

I wonder how the Harold Washington faction of the McHenry County Republican Party is going to spin this slight against their candidate.

  2. The insiders have informed me that there are two main law firms involved in making dirty deals as in case fixing, in the form of kickbacks and bribes.

That does not mean to say that some other firms are not involved.

Last I checked, Demetri does not work for a law firm.

Pity, we may just interrupt the gravy train on this one.

However, it’s up to the people to use the power of the vote…

You betcha, my vote will be made on behalf of the children wrongfully taken from parents and the people who lost land in some of those dirty deals in addition to other wrongful acts committed upon the people who pay taxes, that in turn pay the salaries of some dirty public officials.

Vote for Demetri March 15, 2016

  3. Voting for their friends.

It is a very, tight, elitist club.

Demetri is the very best choice.

  4. “Fighting Corruption,” you are a liar.

You are a coward for hiding behind anonymity.

Tell us any detail, any specific fact, case or name behind your incessant, never-substantiated accusations.

    What judge, case, lawyer?

  5. Martin why don’t you exhibit some self control and try telling the truth?

    You are not my ruler.

And, I will continue telling the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

May God have mercy on the souls of the members of the “REGIME”

    Does that include you Martin?

    Are you a “Regimer?”

  6. That’s worse than I ever could have imagined it being.

The local bar association thinks so poorly of Demitri that they even ranked him worse on health.

    Health!

Demetri is at least twenty years younger than Cowlin.

    My God, that’s bad.

  7. The local Bar Association who provides a list for all of the court appointed evaluators?

The same list of evaluators used by Judges and Lawyers, for which some of those evaluators have been found guilty by the Illinois Department of Professional Regulations?

THE WORDS “LOCAL BAR ASSOCIATION” says it all. In my opinion, they have no credibility!

Once the people read the list, they will figure it out for themselves.

  8. Maybe you might want to read the part of the poll results letter posted above that says who was mailed ballots, dummy.

    Wrong bar association.

    Wrong definition of “evaluator.”

Every attorney who is a member of ISBA who has a local mailing address was mailed a ballot.

Any other licensed lawyer in the state could request a ballot.

The list of attorneys who are officers of a different bar association who you just incorrectly put on blast represent maybe 2% of the ballot count.

    Dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb.

  9. Boethius

Your words “The local bar association” Little hot under the collar are you?

By the way, my definition of evaluator was not wrong.

The real issue is that I have tapped into some things that were not meant for the public to see or hear about.

Lets see, when you have one person who commits deception on the people, they will most likely be able to keep that a secret.

That is until they start acting like a bunch of “Chatty Kathy’s” and then there in lay the problem.

By the way, your argument still has no validity.

You may want to think about polishing up on those supposed those lawyer skills of yours…. that is before you embarrass yourself even further.

Let me guess, you have worked in Judge Cowlin’s courtroom?

  10. Demetri is set to receive a substantially larger pension if he’s elected judge.

That’s the only gravy train at stake.

  11. The “good ole’ boys club” at it again in McHenry County.

This poll is a complete joke.

    It’s friends voting for friends.

I would actually be more concerned if this group ranked Demetri higher.

The fact they are negative about him is a great thing.

It proves he stands for change.

It shows he’s an outsider who won’t be the ‘same old, same old.’

Demetri, if you’re reading this, keep on doing what you’re doing!

You’re support is growing like crazy in McHenry County because people are fed up with the same old nonsense in this County.

You will be elected to the Circuit and you will do us proud.

You don’t let the “good ole’ boys club” stand in your way, because you stand for what is just and right! Thanks for all you do, and we can’t wait to see you take the Oath of Judge!!!!

  12. Jan, So well said!

You are right, their negativity shows that Demetri stands for change in government.

The gold ole boys club is threatened by his increasing support by the people of McHenry County.

  13. This poll was done by the Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA), BUT, only those lawyers who had personal knowledge of the candidates were asked to respond. T

herefore, although it is technically a state bar poll, it is really only going to be composed of local attorneys who have some knowledge of both people.

  14. Jan, the idea that the almost 90% of attorneys who voted in favor of Cowlin are a part of a Good Old Boys club is preposterous.

  15. No Boethius, It’s not preposterous at all…

    It speaks for itself.

Us voters won’t be fooled by smoke and mirrors.

Luckily, the voters have the final say in this election and we are awake and ready to vote for the best candidates, one of whom is Demetri!!

Keep on growing that support Demetri!!!

  16. @Fighting Corruption,

It’s not supposed to be an open poll.

It’s supposed to be a poll of lawyers who have dealt Mr Tsilimigras and Mr Cowlin.

Clearly, the local lawyers found Mr Tsilimigras somewhat lacking, as did the McHenry County judges on the two occasions that I am aware of that Mr Tsilimigras applied for an associate judgeship and was rejected.

  17. @billybob,

It’s a good thing it’s in the voters’ hands this time, and not in the hands of the good ole’ boys club!

We will be electing Demetri to serve as a circuit judge!!

  18. The judges don’t find people “lacking”.

They find people who will fit in with the Program.

That is why it is so important to elect someone who is trying to take on the judicial appointment system.

Judges are not really “elected” in McHenry County.

Lawyers are appointed as Associate Judges and then, when a Full Circuit judge wants to retire, they make sure to do so with time left on their terms.

Then one of the Associates is elevated to the Full Circuit position.

That person then has to stand for an election but it is very rare that anyone does so as the local attorneys are afraid of having case rulings go against them if they buck the system.

The last one to do so hasn’t been seen around the courthouse much since.

When an Associate is moved up to Full Circuit, that creates a vacancy in an Associate position which is then filled again by another appointment.

Therefore, what you really have in practice is an appointment system, rather than an election system.

If Demetri fails, no one else may ever try it again.

  19. Billy Bob. I never said it was supposed to be an open poll, but it should be.

Like Mike Walkup says, it is composed of local Attorneys.

You can’t draw conclusions about who should be a judge, when you only have Attorney’s deciding on an outcome, and you don’t have the opinions of the people.

That is one sure way to promote corruption, also known as case fixing, kickbacks and bribes.

The election process for Judges in McHenry County needs to be revised.

Judges and lawyers should not be allowed to decide who becomes a Judge.

We the people should be making that decision on election day. After all, we do pay their salary.

Further, Judges are suppose to work for the people not their colleagues.

The current system promotes bias, favoritism and a lack of objectivity, fairness and justice.

  20. There is much talk here about this popularity contest.

Ask yourself why a lawyer would prefer an existing judge and at the same time look at the ethics complaint that was swept under the rug by the county administrator.

As one person posted Rebecca Lee worked on Cowlin’s campaign and regularly appeared before him in his court and he ruled in her favor.

Is that the reason he is popular with the lawyers polled?

This is serious and all the people pointing by to this poll reall should wonder why a group of lawyers want him there to move things along.

My bet is they want the old system to continue.

Now Ms Lee is again at the center of a controversy involving another Judge.

Why are we not hearing more about this, or did the other post simply have the facts wrong?

  21. The bias couldn’t be more obvious, as was noted previously in comments, when Demetri was scored lower in “Health”, as well as two other subjective categories.

This poll is an all time low, even for McHenry County.

  22. watcher1

It is and it clearly demonstrates their desperation.

The people are taking the power from the Regimers.

However, more work still needs to be done.

This is another opportunity to take back McHenry County government, by voting for Demetri on March 15, 2016.

Let your vote be your voice.

  23. Mike Walkup- I appreciate your responses to this.

It is interesting that you clarify that this poll was made up of lawyers with personal knowledge of the candidates.

It was interesting to read which attorneys responded from another commenter.

Reading the above comments I have to say that I agree. I am tired of reading about corruption and favoritism.

If this poll is biased as indicated above it makes me sick.

People with power should not have it to abuse it.

There is no doubt that I am voting and endorsing Demetri.

  24. Jennifer, a couple of questions:

    1. When you say that you’ll be endorsing Demetri, are you implying that your endorsement has weight? How much in your estimation?

    2. As a recent debutante into public service and life, do you think it’s politically prudent for your career to buy into a conspiracy theory that alleges 90% of the 700 or so attorneys in the county are conspirators in an “Old Guard” who stand for corruption? I’m not saying this because I think lawyers have any real power (they don’t). I’m saying this because I’ve heard more plausible conspiracy theories from paranoid schizophrenics.

    3. As a college educated person, isn’t a more plausible explanation of the poll results that most attorneys don’t think Demetri is qualified to be a judge?

    4. If you want to climb the prestigious local government elected official ladder someday, do you really want your first big stand to be buying into a ludicrous conspiracy theory to support your buddy? Could pose credibility problems down the road.

    5. Can you provide specific and relevant reasons to prefer Demetri over Cowlin? Feel free to cite any sources you believe are relevant.

Thanks in advance. I eagerly await your reply.

  25. I eagerly wait while you post with your real name.

    Take responsibility for your comments.

  26. IF YOU WANT MORE OF THE SAME VOTE COWLIN.

COWLIN has deep pockets with all his buddies in office he will be serving.

He will be serving them and not us.

  27. So, your answer is that your support for Demetri is a baseless and unprincipled handout to your buddy.

You’ll go far in local politics.

  28. The attorneys listed above are not the ones who responded.

They are the current officers in the county bar association.

There is no way to know who responded.

I got a ballot and sent it in and I am not an ISBA member, just a local McHenry County Bar Association member.

I have gotten to know Demetri pretty well over this past year and he definitely has the demeanor and experience to make a great judge.

I can’t agree at all with those ratings.

  29. There is no way to establish credibility for this poll.

We have no idea how many people actually responded.

If only 20 people… Lawyers… responded and 12 or 13 of them where in the tank for Cowlin then they can give Demetri Zeros in all the categories can drive the curve down dramatically.

    Really folks, let’s be real…

    It’s politics.

    Simply politics.

  30. Boethius your comment–>

“3. As a college educated person, isn’t a more plausible explanation of the poll results that most attorneys don’t think Demetri is qualified to be a judge?”

Your arrogance never ceases to amaze, and you just embarrassed yourself and you insulted the general public with such a hideous comment.

You can take that boat load of you know what with you when Cowlin is voted out of office.

There are many people who do not have High School or College degrees that have achieved many positive things in history.

That is exactly the attitude that has created an environment of corruption in McHenry County.

There is an attitude of superiority because someone has a college degree and or they are a Lawyer or a Judge and their words are sacred and therefore they can do anything they want.

“IT”S CALLED THE GOD SYNDROME AND IT IS PURE ARROGANCE”

We the people have had enough of that.

    Vote for Demetri.

  31. None of you goobers speak for “The People.”

You represent the dozen or so professional bootlickers in the Algonquin Township faction of the party who are crestfallen that their Great Leader isn’t all he’s cracked up to be.

  32. And you idiots should stop it with that Ides of March garbage.

I sincerely doubt that you intend for that to be a threat of violence, but it could be interpreted that way.

    Don’t be that dumb.

  33. Yes we can post on blogs and make statements publicly but the best thing we can do is go door to door and tell the story on this.

Demetri is by far the best candidate for judge.

…and Rebecca Lee is the master manipulator of this poll.

Honestly, and politically speaking, its a political move.

However, this poll is so skewed it is not credible.

In my neighborhood I know several lawyers who did not get this survey and supporting Demetri.

Many who know Demetri personally were appalled by this and actually put signs in the ground after seeing this.

As this makes the rounds just be sure to remind those people that Mrs. Lee actively practices in front of Judge Cowlin and that she is actively working for Judge Cowlin’s campaign and that she actively circulated petitions for Judge Cowlin.

Then remind them that she is one of the principles of this poll.

At that point anyone with any ethics pretty much realizes this is a hit job.

    It works.

    It works well.

Sure am glad I have an army to combat this here in our neck of the woods.

With Demetri as judge you will never have to worry about these kinds of things.

    Demetri has integrity and character.

To all the lawyers who are actively reading this you know that with Demetri you know he is going to do the right thing even when no one else is looking… can the same be said for the principles of this poll?

    INTEGRITY. DEMETRI.

    Respectfully,
    Andrew Gasser

  34. You live in a fantasy world. Apparently, you think the public is oblivious to your shenanigans and they are not.

Go humble your, you know what along the way.

The only bootlickers are the ones making deals with the dirty judges and Lawyers.

How many bagmen do we have in McHenry County?

During the days of Greylord the Judges and Lawyers were so arrogant, the deals were being made in the halls of the Courthouse right in front of people.

In McHenry County, they use briefcases and hired bagmen to deliver the money.

The Pillsbury Dough Boy is so fat he can’t even carry a briefcase anymore.

So tell me, who carries his as he is so full of dough?

    Vote for Demetri.

  35. I am a local attorney.

I did not initially receive a ballot for this pole.

Rather, I became aware of the poll because a select few in my office received ballots.

I actually had to order my ballot from the ISBA.

In asking around a number of attorneys did not receive ballots.

Ironically, those of us that did not receive ballots were clearly in the Demetri camp.

I also received my ballot on the very same day ballots had to be received back to be considered.

Although, I’m not suggesting that the poll was intentionally manipulated, it’s highly coincidental that ballots were not sent to at least 15 lawyers known to support Demetri.

I also find it interesting that Demetri has been rated higher than many other people selected to be a judge by the Circuit Court Judges.

If the bar poll had any merit many of our judges would not have been appointed.

I know in the past Mike Coppage, who I totally respect as a lawyer, was rated at the bottom each time he put his name in and was not selected.

When he was appointef a decision was made not to release the poll results.

My point is this poll is like a high school popularity contest, not an objective assessment of legal ability.

Demetri has my vote and it’s because:

    A) I believe a change is warranted,

    B) a Demetri win will serve to vest power back to the people,

    C) Demetri is qualified, honorable and ethical, and

    D) Demetri will be a judge for all the people.

    Vote Demetri

  36. I like a good conspiracy theory as much as anyone, but some of you people really need to raise your game.

  37. Fighting for Change in McHenry County Said:

“My point is this poll is like a high school popularity contest, not an objective assessment of legal ability”

    YEP!

  38. Whoever “for change” is, she or he is a liar.

The ballots are sent to all.

They come from the state bar association, which compiles the results.

He says that a conspiracy kept the ballots from Tsmiligras supporters.

    What nonsense.

The lawyers who are in the courthouse know their colleagues and judges.

They complain about the bad ones and like the good ones.

Judge Coppedge ALWAYS had great scores for legal ability, experience, and integrity.

He scored lower on temperament because he was so hard-nosed an opponent.

His ability and experience were never in question in bar poll results.

    Never.

He has been very good since he took the bench.

    Great conspiracy theory.

    Go back to Area 51.

  39. COINTELPRO brown shirt trolls seem to be antagonizing the proletariat.

  40. Martin stop projecting onto others. You allege everyone is a liar but you. Your defensiveness says it all.
You can’t hide the truth from the people anymore, so put a sock in it!

Don’t you have some boot to lick? Maybe a dirty judge or some dirty lawyer making a deal?
Oh sorry, you say your’e not a part of that.

    You are laughable…

  41. MARTIN said:

“Judge Coppedge ALWAYS had great scores for legal ability, experience, and integrity”

How quaint, as it appears that they keep it in the family. I will give them that.

  43. Send Curran my regards.

Haven’t seen that boy in years.

    Still have the bill though.

    It was an awesome consultation!

    Such fond memories!

Gosh, what has he been up to all these years later?

    Same sh…..t different day?

    Just asking!

  44. With how crazy your rambling has been over the past 24 hours, you could tell “EVERYONE” that 2+2=4, and “EVERYONE” would have a hard time believing you.

  45. Let’s see, how many people were in that office that day?

There was only one Attorney, that I do know….lol…lol…lol….

You know, it’s much more fun to be the cat and not the mouse.

    Just saying.

  46. Do you ever wonder if there are only 2 people commenting back and forth with each other, but go under multiple names?

  47. We must have change in every area of McHenry County.

We must have a free voting system to elect Judges because this is the only way to root out patronage and inbreeding in one of the most important areas of our judicial system.

I urge everyone to vote for Change.

We must have free and open elections not appointments where anyone is safe to vote without fear of backlash of any sort what so ever.

  48. No problem in supporting Demetri Tsilimigras
I refuse to support a Candidate for Judge who feels he is above the law or doesn’t’ know the law well enough to follow it.

Is Cowlin that stupid or just ethically challenged?

Underneath his obvious arrogance, entitled mentality, and rudeness, he is a very weak man selfishly concerned what losing this race will do to HIM, not what losing to Tsilimigras it will do to elevate the county.

Selfish people are little people and little people don’t have what it takes to be Judge.

Vote Demetri, March 15 or before.

    Early voting starts tomorrow,

    LETS CLEAN UP THAT COURTHOUSE.
