Four more McHenry County Townships elected officers to lead Republican Party efforts for the next two years.
First up was Nunda Township.
There was not vote as candidate Nick Provenzano withdrew his candidacy in favor of Joe Gottemoller’s.
Mark Daniel, former Township Chairman, was elected Vice Chairman.
Catherine Williams won the Treasurer spot.
Nancy Gonsiorek was elected Secretary.
The next part of the county to organize was the largest geographically–the NorWest Townships. It consists of Alden, Chemung, Burton, Coral, Dunham, Greenwood, Hartland, Hebron, Richmond, Riley and Seneca Townships.
There was a contest for the chairmanship between Mike McCleary, who served as chairman in 2014-16, and Shawn Green, former Huntley School Board President and District 6 County Board candidate.
A roll call vote in which every Precinct Committeeman cast the number of votes equal to the number of Republican ballots.
Green won by enough that there was not a need to add up the totals.
“We can win that State Rep. race,” he told the group after his election.
For Vice Chairman Riley Township Republican Committeeman Kurt Schable, a former Riley School Board President, faced off against Richmond Township Precinct Committeeman Matt Meyer, who is a Trustee of the McHenry County Educational Region School Board.
With several precincts in the area having GOP voters in the 500 range, the margin was surprisingly thin.
4,228 for Meyer and 3,801 for Schable.
The outgoing Secretary, Rachel Smith, declined to be nominated.
Former Richmond Township Supervisor Tamara Valentine-Garza was elected without opposition.
Hebron Village Trustee Mark Shepherd was re-elected Treasurer.
The McHenry Township’s meeting was held in the hall of the Holiday Inn.
Chairman Steve Rooney was re-elected, as was Vice Chairman Steve Verr.
Mike Rakestraw was elected Secretary and Erik Sivertsen will serve as Treasurer.
After the County Central Committee meeting, Dorr Township Republican met.
Elected Chairman was Joe Monack. He beat McHenry County Board member Tina Hill for Precinct Committeeman by 231 to 159.
McHenry County College Board member Karen Tirio will serve as Vice Chairman.
Secretary will be newcomer Cynthia Hemauer.
Treasurer will be former McHenry County Board member Virginia Peschke..
In Dorr we are looking to vet candidates to be appointed to Precincts 2 and 4.
Cynthia Hemauer is the new Secretary
and
Virginia Peschke is the new Treasurer.
The results of ‘lobbying’ prior to the Township elections are obvious.
Virginia Peschke!
She’s a pseudo-Republican, at best!
Congrats to you all from the ATRCC!
Very excited for McHenry County!
What a great team with a strong and smart bunch at the helm!
Steer this ship forward crew!
