World Socialist Web Site Mentions McHenry County

Found this mention of McHenry County’s homelessness situation in the publication “World Socialist Web Site” for the International Committee of the Fourth International (ICFI):

“McHenry County, which borders Lake County to the west, has reported a 51 percent increase in demands for shelter services since 2009, according to that county’s PADS shelter.”

Going back to the late 1960’s when I was involved with starting the Crystal Lake organization FISH with Sunny Janikowski and Marge Jones, housing was impossible to find.

FISH manned a telephone line people were encouraged to call when they had problems.

Transportation we could provide.

Food we could provide.

Housing we could not.

  1. No Section 8 in the 1960’s.

The federal government had not infiltrated every local unit of government in the country.

“Mr. and Mrs. Alderson Muncy of Paynesville, West Virginia, were the first food stamp recipients on May 29, 1961. They purchased $95 in food stamps for their 15-person household. In the first food stamp transaction, they bought a can of pork and beans at Henderson’s Supermarket. By January 1964, the pilot programs had expanded from eight areas to 43 (40 counties, Detroit, St. Louis, and Pittsburgh) in 22 States with 380,000 participants.”

As of this morning there were 44,534,001 food stamp (SNAP / LINK) recipients in the U.S.

161,467,630 people were receiving some form of government assistance.

There are 323,354,533 people living in the U.S.A. i.e. 51 percent of the population is receiving some form of government benefit.

In Illinois almost 16 percent of the population receives food stamps.

No wonder ‘uncle’ Bernie is projected to win the election in the fall.

  2. How sent this Red tidbit to them, Commissaress Yensen or Dale berry?
