Hints at What D155 Might Do re Supt. Johnnie Thomas’ Contract

Here’s an educated guess from a Friend of McHenry County Blog at what the Crystal Lake High School District 155 Board will be doing at its meeting next Tuesday night at 7:30 at its Administrative Center at One South Virginia Road in Crystal Lake.

Thomas looking right neutralIt looks like the issue with giving Superintendent Johnnie Thomas is not about getting a bonus like last year when he received a $14,000 bonus.

Instead the Board is considering a possible multi-year contract extension that would commit future boards to employing Dr. Thomas and paying for a total compensation package of over $200,000.

This also could limit a school board with new members, elected in the upcoming 2017 election, in their ability to take District 155 in a new direction, should they choose to do so.

  1. Is there dissatisfaction with 155’s results?

Their schools are rated among the best in the state and Cary-Grove’s new theater is a showplace.

They landed three nominations in the Illinois HS musical theater competition.

I think that’s the best showing by any school in the state.

  2. Well Joe, we get our property taxes this week &

Perhaps some of us aren’t appreciating the HIGH COST of most the school districts in McHenry County.

  3. Perhaps taxpayers are disgusted that the board wants to possibly tie future board members hands and force them to keep on a super that was directly responsible for an approximately 5 million dollar mistake.

Would a mistake of that magnitude just go overlooked in a corporate setting?

No it would not so why is it being overlooked now?

This is our money they are mismanaging.

This is a board that is canceling classes kids/parents love and getting rid of teachers because of no money yet they can afford to give this guy a $16,000 bonus on top of thousands of dollars of perks?

  4. I don’t understand how this could be possible…

there is no way that this man would keep his job in the private sector.

We should not stand for this!

  5. Is $200,000 a magic number?…

I hear that there is a $200,000 package offer for Dr Laurie Tobias when she leaves the Harvard school system…..

Richard Crosby is the last retired School Superintendent who with his school teacher wife is on retirement for over #350,000 per year Plus COLA….

    Just saying

  6. Btw, what ever happened to the 78 million slush fund?

Haven’t heard anything about that lately.

  7. Only policemen & firemen deserve pensions paid by property taxpayers because they put their lives
in harms way each day for us. When it comes to other government employees, teachers, school
superintendents, etc. etc. etc., they should come under the social security system in lieu of property owners being burdened with higher and higher property tax increases each year to cover these outrages pensions these individuals receive. Can one just imagine the decrease one would realize in their tax bill if this burden of contributing to all these pensions was eliminated. One could use the savings for one’s own family in lieu of supporting these pension plans. By now we all should have received our tax bills,
and SUPERINTENDENT THOMAS ABSOLUTELY DOES NOT DESERVE ANY TYPE OF INCREASE OR BONUS OR A MULTI-YEAR CONTRACT. HE IS DEFINITELY NOT QUALIFIED TO BE SUPERINTENDENT. HE HAS COST US TAXPAYERS WITHIN 5 MILLION DOLLARS FOR THE INTELLIGENT MEGA-BLEACHER CONSTRUCTION FIASCO, DECONSTRUCTION AND NOW THE RECONSTRUCTION.
