Remember the $25,000 in legal fees that the McHenry County Board voted to pay Local 150 of the International Union of Operating Engineers to go away on its Open Meetings violation lawsuit?
Here’s the guts of the authorizing resolution:
“…the Chairman of the McHenry County Board is hereby authorized to execute the proposed settlement agreement with the Plaintiffs in McHenry County Case No. 15 CH 424 and comply with any terms contained therein including the payment of $25,000 to be paid to Plaintiffs for attorney fees with such payment to be made from the General Fund Fiscal Year 2016 Non-Departmental budget line item OCA 900020-4570 (Non-Departmental – Contingency)…” [Emphasis added.]]
I wondered how the $25,000 compared with the legal fees that Local 150 paid its attorneys.
There’s no way to know.

That means the $25,000 figure was snatched out of the air.
