Ten Years for Aggregated DUI

RUBEN ZENDEJAS SENTENCED TO TEN YEARS IN THE ILLINOIS DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS FOR AGGRAVATED DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF DRUGS AND ALCOHOL

Louis A. Bianchi, McHenry County State’s Attorney, announces that Ruben Zendejas, 26, was sentenced to ten years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for the offense of Aggravated Driving Under the Influence of Drugs and Alcohol.

Under the Truth in Sentencing Guidelines, the defendant shall serve 85% of the sentence.

On February 8, 2015 at 2:17 a.m. the Crystal Lake police were dispatched to U.S. Route 176 and Oak Street for a motor vehicle crash.

The defendant, Ruben Zendejas, was driving his Chevrolet Blazer and entered the intersection through a red light and lammed into a blue Saab. Brandon Ferreira, 24, was a passenger seated in the rear of the Saab.

As a result of the collision Brandon was paralyzed from the chest down and will be confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his life. The defendant Zendejas smelled strongly of alcohol, failed field sobriety tests, and a blood test indicated he had cannabis in his system.

This case was investigated by Officer Krol of the Crystal Lake Police Department.

This case was prosecuted by Michael Combs and Alex Geocaris of the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office.
