McConchie Comments of Lack of Budget

A press release from State Senator Dan McConchie:

Illinois Legislature adjourns without a balanced budget

Springfield, IL… On May 31, the final day of regular spring session, legislators left Springfield without passing a budget of any sort. Sen. Dan McConchie (R-Hawthorn Woods) issued the following statement:

“Once again legislators in Springfield have adjourned without coming together to pass a budget that lives within our means. In fact, the situation in Springfield is so bad that the super-majority Democrats couldn’t even agree amongst themselves on a budget to present for the Governor’s consideration.

“While we should have been working on a budget, the Senate instead found find time to pass a resolution creating ‘Health Puppy Awareness Day.’ The people deserve better.

“Unfortunately, last week House Democrats decided to forgo the progress made by the bipartisan, bicameral working groups and instead presented a spending plan that was out of balance to the tune of $7 billion. That budget proposal is absolutely irresponsible and would be the largest unbalanced budget in the history of the state.

“As we continue to meet throughout the month of June, we must stop these phony budgets and continue our efforts with the bipartisan working groups so that we can find a compromise solution to our budget impasse before the new fiscal year begins.”

Senator McConchie is available for additional comment regarding the state budget impasse and other important issues in Illinois.
