McHenry County Salaries – E — 18 Comments

  1. According to the McHenry County Sheriff’s website, it only takes a GED to become a Sheriff’s Deputy or a Corrections Officer, yet in many cases they earn more than RNs, Assistant State’s Attorneys, and Network Engineers.

    This is nuts.

This state has no chance of recovering if we are not able to break the power of public employee unions.

  2. Billy, what you miss is that Sheriff’s Deputies are more apt to be shot, and die, in the course of their duties than are RNs, ASAs and Network Engineers.

And you note this after Deputy Maness’ duty related death, by felony gunfire, nine months ago….

  3. really??

    Felony gunfire?

It was a wellness check in the middle of the night.

They were told to go away, yet they proceeded.

It was a fiasco that NEVER had to happen!

Shame on the SWAT people involved.

They are all guilty for causing so much misery.

  4. Cindy, you’ve evidently no idea as to how law enforcement works, nor the domestic violence laws and apparently have zero humanity or compassion.

    I’ve rarely read such ridiculousness.

  5. Billy Bob – There is a difference between a minimal employment qualification and what the average new employee has.

I highly doubt that any sherriff’s deputy has only a GED.

I am sure they have a high school diploma, either a AA or BA/BS degree, maybe some military service.

Also understand many police offices are understaffed and would rather not hire a new employee.

Rather they will pay overtime rates.

So this is a huge boost to your income, if you work all of the overtime.

I was at a wild game cookout and one of the guys claimed to be a corrections officer.

His wife made the statement that he works every bit of overtime that is available.

She thought he averaged 60 hours a week.

I was shocked, but it seems to be the issue.

It is cheaper, to give overtime than hire a new guy with benefits.

  6. Really??

Pretending that there was domestic violence going on does not negate one’s responsibility for causing this fiasco.

You evidently have no idea how to be a person of integrity and not whine to the government to help me, help me, please for every single question that anyone may comeup with.

Those holier than thou authorities had no business intruding in this man’s life.

They caused much harm and totally ruined quite a few people’s lives.

    (Including their own deputies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

  7. There are many jobs far more dangerous than law enforcement that do not pay nearly as well.

First responders in Illinois tend to receive outlandish pay and retirement benefits because of union friendly arbitration laws that leave government entities at a distinct disadvantage in contract negotiations.

Do you really thing that someone who only has a high school diploma or a GED should be able to retire in their early 50s with a great pension with a COLA plus health care benefits?

I wouldn’t care one bit if these were private sector jobs, but it is our money that is being extorted to pay for it all.

There is no reason at all to pay a senior Sheriff’s Deputy more than ~$60k a year.

  8. Cindy, you fail in your feeble attempt to espouse libertarian virtues and land squarely in anarchy.

Good for you, I suppose you refuse to use any social service or government commodity.

Because you eschew the social contract and government, to your anarchy is inherently evil and, in all forms, bad. Because you don’t need it.

Forget police, you’ll locate and arrest villians yourself, who needs the fire department?

I’m sure you’ll douse any fire.

Guess your health is stout enough you don’t need an ambulance.

Aside from fearing fluoride, hiding from vapor trails and denying the moon landing and 9-11, you sound like a follower of Turner or a sovereign.

    Good luck with all that.

Btw, evil Uncle Sam monitors the net so be careful!!!!

  9. Cindy I would love to see you work JUST ONE DAY in the jail.

I’ll even take an hour of your services.

I also would like to see you go through the physical training they go through, you know nothing and it shows every time you post about anything

  10. The people in Law Enforcement go off to war every day they go to work.

They make huge sacrifices that most people don’t even know about, because it is a part of their jobs.

When you can wear a badge and fight crime Cindy, then you can say you walked in their shoes and therefore have an opinion.

But for now you are an outsider looking in, who’s views on the real world are very distorted to begin with.

  11. Cindy, just following your trolling lead.

(Insert comment about kitchen and heat here).

Here’s a thought, keep to stories about conspiracy theories and leave the adult table for the adults.

  12. It’s amazing to me how many people on this blog are on the right side when it comes to speaking out against wasteful education spending, but are willing to look the other way when it comes to paying large salaries to minimally qualified people who happen to work in a field that they approve of.

There is no sane reason to pay a Deputy Sheriff $100k a year and then give them gold plated retirement benefits on top of that.

There are many people in the private sector who have advanced degrees who don’t get compensated that well.

When the parasites get paid better than the host, the host eventually dies.

  13. wow I will say that the Deputy Sheriff who makes $100k a year is a little much.

I wonder how many years of service that person has?

Must have been from the old regime.

They don’t get insurance but I wouldn’t mind that salary.

  14. @Billy Bob – You bring up a good point why pay a Deputy Sheriff 100k?

It si a pretty simple math problem.

    Hours(Rate of Pay) = Salary.

The reason they make 100K is because of the overtime.

Plan and simple if you work more hours at an hourly rate you will make more money.

Honestly I would rather have two people working 1.5 positions, creating a total need of three people who get their hourly rate plus benefits.

Paying the overtime oddly will save you on the benefits side.

Again this is simple math. However, I do agree that I am shocked at the 100K salary and when the Sheriff looks at his budget he needs to look at each individual position and ask how did they get to this point.

  15. I’m not sure if these figures include OT or not.

I’m too lazy to look up the salary scale, but it would be quite a coincidence if these figures do include OT and Sgt Alex Embry and Sgt Eric Ellis both made exactly $99,259.16.
