Jack Franks Still Running for State Rep. – Part 26

Even the Chicago Tribune bought into State Rep. Jack Franks’ pitch that he was not going to run for re-election as well as for McHenry County Board Chairman.

It’s been about three weeks since Franks put out that story, but he still has not filed his Withdrawal of Candidacy statement with the Illinois State Board of Elections.

He will be on the ballot unless he does so.

Franks has until an August deadline, but every story I have seen about his running for County Board Chairman is based on the premise that he is not running for both offices.

That’s despite the fact that he told told Pete Gonigam, the only reporter at the Democratic Party caucus,

“Franks qualified that saying he’d give up the Rep. race if the Committee can pick another candidate who’s both ‘electable’ and holds a political outlook consistent with his own.”

No media outlet has pointed out that Franks promised not to run for County Board Chairman:

But, then again, none of the traditional media has pointed out that Franks promised to serve only three terms in 1998 and is now in his ninth term.

  3. Apparently dual mandates are ok in Illinois.

    From the highly touted Wikipedia…

“In August 2008, Governor of Illinois Rod Blagojevich proposed legislation that would prohibit dual-office holding as part of changes to the state’s ethics bill, stating that “dual government employment creates the potential for a conflict of interest because a legislator’s duties to his or her constituents and his or her public employer are not always consistent.”

Critics, such as Representative Susana Mendoza, called the actions “spite” on the part of the governor.”…

I think your boy stood up, LT.

    Then he went somewhere.
