Message of the Day – Bill Cellini

It’s not that I have a “thing” about Bill Cellini, but every time I stay in at hotel or motel, I look at the shower curtain rod.

It usually is curved.

And Bill Cellini came up with that idea and put them in his Renaissance Hotel in Downtown Springfield.

Couldn’t get a suite there during Old Capitol Art Fair weekend for less than $600, so we stayed at the Drury Inn near the coal smoke spewing coal-fired electric power plant.

Stinky smoke comes out of Springfield's coal-fired electric generating plant.

And guess what I saw.

A curved shower rod inspired by Bill Cellini.

Later we had lunch with friends who had run into Bill and Julie Cellini.

The friends told of how friendly the couple was.

Guess nothing much has changed since I worked for him on a mayoral campaign in 1971.

  1. One of the greatest inventions of modern times.v one of the first things I check for when I stay at hotels.

Unfortunately, many hotels install them incorrectly, completely negating the purpose for the curve in the first place.

  2. We’re talking about shower curtains and you bring up a progressive leftist site.

    Nice work, karma.

  3. $600 a night to stay in a Springfield, Il. Hotel?

I wouldn’t pay that to stay in the Lincoln Bedroom at the White House!

Do you get to pelt Pols and Gov. Workers with rocks from your room window with that rate?

  4. @DJ

If Hillary gets elected, she will probably resume selling overnights in the Lincoln Bedroom. IIRC, that was a good fundraising technique for the Clintonistas back in the day.

Prolly cost a bit more than $600, though.

  5. Legally corrupt politicians and insiders cost Illinois taxpayers far more than corrupt insiders and politicians.

The legally corrupt practice for decades of underfunded and unfunded pension and retiree healthcare benefit hikes, to pension and retiree healthcare systems which were already underfunded, resulted in hiked taxes now and in the future exponentially exceeding taxpayer costs for corrupt insiders and politicians.

Underfunded pensions being the single largest fiscal problem in the state of Illinois.

The Illinois Pension Game courtesy of the Illinois Government Machine.

Primary enablers being pension benefit hikers such as Jack Franks.

Who then claims he has never voted for a tax hike.

The very definition of a legally corrupt politician.

  6. LOL, in Mark’s world – corrupt criminal Bill Cellini is okay (because he’s a Republican), but Jack Franks (with no ties to any corruption) is not okay.

    Got it.

  7. Okay, now stop laughing and tells us specifically Jack’s corrupt acts.

He can buy and sell any political leach in the county, including Road Rage Ladd.

  8. Specifics, “fighting corruption.”

Give us specific on how Franks is tied to any corruption that would get him indicted/convicted like Cal’s friend Cellini.

  9. The point is not that Bill Cellini’s crimes were ok.

The point is that underfunded pension benefit hikes and underfunded retiree healthcare benefit hikes, to pension & retiree healthcare systems that are already underfunded, actions that are legally corrupt by politicians such as Jack Franks, cost taxpayers more than illegal actions by convicted politicians and insiders such as Bill Cellini.

It should have been and should be illegal to hike pension and retiree healthcare benefits when pension and retiree healthcare systems are underfunded.

If pension benefits were frozen at 1970 levels, pay hikes held in check, and pension funded was not diverted to salary hikes (which has the double whammy of hiking pension payouts), we would not have massively underfunded pensions.

    This

  10. Crying,

    “It otta be illegal”,

sounds very liberal and certainly not an answer to evil, corrupt, and downright disgusting behavior.

There are plenty of things that are actually illegal and no one pays any attention. (Check out who is actually sitting in your White House.)

    You can’t legislate stupid.

Just look at how corrupt the whole world is.

This is NOT an actual answer to anything.

Starting with God’s law against lying, how has that worked out for humanity so far?

  11. What’s your proposed solution to the problem of underfunded pension benefit hikes and underfunded retiree healthcare benefit hikes, to pension and retiree healthcare systems that are already underfunded.

Not that any proposed solution will solve the water that has already flowed over the dam and created a 111 BILLION plus unfunded pension liability (IOU to the 5 state pension funds as of FY Ending June 30, 2015 and that doesn’t include retiree healthcare) and that’s for only the 5 state pension systems, not the other 15 pension systems in Illinois.

    $111,000,000,000+.

The fiscal year ends June 30, 2016 and we’ll get an updated number for FY 2016 probably December 2016.

Entire state revenues for an entire year are around $35 Billion or so.

That’s roughly 3 years of state revenues to bring just the 5 state pension systems to a fully funded status, not to mention unpaid bill backlog, retiree healthcare unfunded liability, bond debt service (future bond payments), etc.

Underfunded pensions being the single largest fiscal problem in the state of Illinois.

  12. No proposed “solution”.

    Start over.

Maybe someone can get it right?

    Naw. Not possible.

Time to get off the roller coaster ride to Hell.

Not a solution, but subtle advice to avoid the head on collision that is coming.

Get out of the way because this puppy is coming down hard.

  13. I don’t want anything done.

Standing in the gap is all we are expected to do.

You seem to do that well.

    I take that back.

I would like (if wishes were being granted) for everyone to take responsibility and have integrity over their lives.

Not gonna happen; but I do see a lot of folks waking up on that score.
