A press release from Governor Bruce Rauner:
Governor Rauner Celebrates Pride Weekend in Chicago
CHICAGO – As Chicago and Illinois celebrate LGBT pride this weekend, Governor Bruce Rauner reaffirmed today at Navy Pier PRIDE 2016 that Illinois stands in solidarity with the LGBT community.
“Illinois has a legacy of being inclusive to all, and we are here to celebrate equality, inclusion, acceptance, and the entire LGBT community this weekend,” Governor Rauner said.
“What happened in Orlando was deplorable and the people of Illinois do not tolerate acts of hate or terror. It is important to stand with the LGBT community and ensure their safety – and the safety of all Illinoisans.”
In the wake of the Orlando shooting, Illinois State Police will deploy additional resources to Chicago this weekend to assist local law enforcement at the Chicago Pride Parade.
In addition to this extra layer of security, ISP reminds the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to authorities.
Since taking office, Governor Rauner has signed legislation to strengthen Illinois’ protections of the LGBT community like expanding Illinois’ hate crimes law to include transgender people.
