For the second time I can remember, Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White drove the van for his Jesse White Tumblers at Crystal Lake’s 4th of July Parade.
When the Tumblers came down Dole Avenue toward the First United Methodist Church, I thought the crowd was just in for spectacular jumps.
Then, a man brought out the banner for tumblers to vault over.
I figured out it was Jesse White himself.
The 82-year old former minor league baseball player is still obviously physically fit.
He founded the Tumblers organization in 1959.
He was elected to the Illinois House of Representatives two years after I first entered that body.
He served sixteen years.
After that in 1992 he was elected Cook County Recorder of Deeds.
He won re-election in 1996.
In 1998, he was elected Illinois Secretary of State.
