Campaign Finance Report Time

Jack Franks

Jack Franks

Campaign Disclosure Reports are not due to the State Board of Elections until midnight April 15th–Friday night.

But, having just finished my quarterly torture, I started looking for reports from other local committees.

Jack Franks, now running for only one office–McHenry County Board Chairman–has 23 reports of contributions of $1,000 or more.

Clearly, when he files, that is worth a separate article.

Democratic State Rep. candidate John Bartman has no campaign committee filed yet.

Steve Reick

Steve Reick

His opponent, Republican Steve Reick, reports $77.95 available, having raised $4,447.98 during the last three months and spent $5,426.77.  (Might be worth another article to look at the details.)

The Jim Harrison for Sheriff campaign fund has been closed.

The Jim Harrison for Sheriff campaign fund has been closed.

Let’s look at Democrats besides Franks now, countywide offices first.

Jim Harrison is running as the Democrats’ candidate for State’s Attorney.

Two years ago, he ran as an Independent candidate for McHenry County Sheriff after Bill Prim narrowly defeated Andy Zinke in the Republican Party Primary Election.

Harrison ran as an Independent after dropping out of the Republican Primary contest.

I typed his last name in the State Board’s search engine and got what you see below:

There is no requirement to file a campaign committee until one raises or spends $1,000.

There is no requirement to file a campaign committee until one raises or spends over $5,000.

Next I typed in “Gray.”

Lynn Gray is running for McHenry County Recorder of Deeds.

The results:

There are three candidates with the last name of Gray, but none for Lynn Gray.

There are three candidates with the last name of Gray, but none for Lynn Gray.

Mike Walkup

Mike Walkup

The Democrats are running no one for Auditor or Coroner.

Looking for Republican running countywide, I typed in “Walkup.”

He’s the Republican candidate for McHenry County Board facing off against Franks.

Walkup’s committee had $12.40 in the bank, according to the first quarterly report.

The report for the three months ending June 30th has not yet been filed.

Patrick Kenneally

Patrick Kenneally

Republican McHenry County State’s Attorney Patrick Kenneally also has not filed his second quarterly report.

He has three entries indicating three contributions of at least $1,000.

Joe Tirio

Joe Tirio

Recorder of Deeds candidate Joe Tirio showing $222.03 in the bank at the end of June.

He raised $1,850.

He spent $1,666.34.

McHenry County Auditor Pam Palmer reported having $1,640.66 in the bank at the end of June.

A search of campaign reports for Republican Coroner Anne Majewski yields the same result as that for Democrats Jim Harrison and Lynn Gray–nothing filed.

  1. There are no records for Harrison because The Board of Elections are so confused……..

    Democrat……Republican…….Independent ?

If at you first you don’t succeed, try try again, and again and again !

  2. Relative to the Happy Trails comment, check out the voting history of other Democrats running for office in McHenry County.

How many have pulled Republican ballots in the past?

  3. Are there any true Republicans or Democrats anymore.

People run on whatever ticket they can to win.

I remember someone once saying,”I’ll be whatever you want me to be as long as I get what I what” Sad

  4. can’t type this morning. Should read:

” I’ll be whatever you want me to be as long as I get what I want”

  5. Happy Trails I have a question for you about reporting expenditures.

Does a candidate have to report the cost of paint in changing their candidate signs?

  6. It’s really nice how you always remember to include Mike Walkup in things.

Compassion and caring for those less fortunate is a real Christian virtue…

  7. Considering Mike Walkup has actually done something to cut local taxes, it seems appropriate.

  8. **Walkup’s committee had $12.40 in the bank, according to the first quarterly report.**

This makes me laugh and cry.

I have no love for Jack Franks, despite what certain candidates for State Rep think, but if Walkup can’t raise any money, he’s in big, big trouble.

He’s probably in trouble anyway, but without money, he’s in really big trouble.
